As long as the duron chip has a front side bus (FBS) of 200 mhz you should be able to upgrade it to that processor. Whenever you buy processor it will tell you the FSB speed somewhere on the box.

I had M7VKB with Duron 1.2G(Morgan). It works fine. Does anybody know this motherboard can monitor CPU die temperature by thermal diode? Because Duron Morgan core support this function. But when I check the CPU temperature, I wonder it is the thermal diode under the CPU in Socket A.

I had replied to this early today but I don't know if it got posted.
1. With the XP-TMC adapter I can easily run an AMD 2500+ Barton at 1800 mhz on my M7VKB rev 1.1 motherboard. 2. Used the latest 1031b bios, FSB at 200(100X2), and the memory at 100(might try to adjust to host+33, for 133 since my memory is PC133). The machine booted immediately, and in the bios display, showed an 1800 mhz processor. I feel a 400 watt power supply with two fans, one blowing down at the CPU, is a must. I also installed a chipset fan on the northbridge as the M7VKB manual recommends this for any speed over 1.2 mhz. 4. I added a rear fan for exhaust, as originally my case did not have one(the original config was a Duron 750, which I later upgraded to a Tbird 1.1). 5. So far my son has beat this machine to death, playing 8 hours at a time, FFXI, over the last 3 days. 6. Also I had ordered a retail Barton 2500+, but used a Cooljag fan/heatsink combo, instead of the supplied cooler. This combo is larger, and it looks like the fan is a full 80mm one. Anyway it works, and my FFXI benchmarks jumped up about 500 points, over the Tbird 1.1. Next is a video card upgrade. The only reason I didn't opt for a CPU/motherboard/memory upgrade, that would have been of course a realy big boost, is that this is my son's PC. I didn't want to risk having to re-install everything, and have him drive me crazy, until I had everyting exactly as it was before(of course no guarantee). This was a little cheaper, easier, and no hassle. I wasn't looking for a miracle, just a decent boost, which I got. | |
