Help |
|
OK, So I need some help. I am afraid the pokemon I have wont work well in the end of the game. I just got my fourth badge and the pokemon I use are.
Charizard Meowth Pidgeot Vaporeon Butterfree They are all level 40. My Meowth knows electric types of moves so I use him as an electric type. I am planning on getting a Zapdos soon and then teaching him dark moves. I am worried that my team has too many flying type, even though they are flying/something else. I havent lost yet, but I am afraid I will go through the game and then not be able to pass the elite 4. I was thinking about putting away my Butterfree for another pokemon, but I cant figure out what pokemon to replace it with, I was thinking maybe a ghost type? I just want some suggestions of if my team will be able to make it through. I dont really want to give up Meowth since he is my favorite pokemon of all.

re: Help |

First off - very nice levels for the fourth gym!
I agree that you should drop butterfree - it's good at the beginning but becomes very weak. Zapdos should work O.K as it's not weak vs electric, but still you then have 3 weak against electric and rock so the rest of your team need to make up for this. A ground type is what you need IMO - A Dugtrio or a Rhydon (you'll need to get to Fuschia city for that) would work well. Also, I feel that Dodrio easily outperforms Pidgeot but this won't make any difference to your team balance. If you want to keep Meowth, good for you! it's rare to see people using Poke's they actually like over the usual strong ones. If however you do grow tired of it, I think the ghost type Gengar would work quite nicely but I feel that Alakazam is a better choice in this game. ------------------- ![]()

Thanks for the advice!
Yea, I had to work hard to get everyone to level 40. Yea, I love Meowth, I normally dont catch alot of pokemon because I only catch the ones I like and want to use, but I wanted the everstone once I learned about it, so I quickly caught up to twenty and gave it to him. I do like Rhydon, He seems pretty badass from the show. Do you just get him in the city like Eevee? Or do you have to capture him? Is Alakazam easy to grow? I always read how Abra is hard to raise, would you suggest I get an Alakazam over a Rhydon? I am working hard at the game center to win the move Shadow Ball to teach my Meowth for when I get Zapdos, I think thats a ghost move so I will have a good ghost move on my team. re: Help |

Rhyhorn you catch in the safari zone, it's not too hard to find in there. It evolves into Rhydon at somewhere close to 40, 42 maybe.
I would definately put Rhydon over Alakazam for your current team just to cover your weaknesses up a bit. It is indeed very tough, and it learns great attacks at higher levels Alakazam is incredibly easy to train as soon as Abra evolves (lvl 16) and learns confusion. Before that all it knows is teleport so it can't fight, you have to put it in day care or switch it out of battles so that it gets half the experience. Your training should certainly pay off, you'll probably have no trouble whatsoever with the gym leaders from now on Shadow ball for meowth is a good idea, it'll benefit from that quite strongly and it means that Gengar is unnecessary. I've just started fire red again recently so I might go with the training who I like approach...although all of my favourites are evolved anyway I think ------------------- ![]()

re: Help |

Misty is hard when you start with Charmander lol. Yea, it does get hard to raise the pokemon you like, especialy if they are "normal" type, but I think its more fun to have pokemon you like then just a bunch of strong, dumb ones. I am tempted to evolve my meowth into persian, but I doubt I will.
Thanks alot for your help, I will definatly give up Butterfree for Rhydon, except I hate the safari zone, its so hard to catch pokemon. Atleast back in the original red it was. The only problem I have now is that Butterfree knows psychic moves, Do I really need a psychic move or would Shadow Ball on meowth be enough? Maybe I will teach him confusion as well if that will be the best. Good luck on your game! I have just spent the last day playing the slots to get coins, I bought Thunderbolt, and Ice Beam, and now I just need to get Shadow Ball and I can continue again. Oh and the VS Seeker is actually the key to raising Pokemon, I just fight the same hard trainers over and over again and get alot of experience.

Misty is actually a really good gym leader. Her Starmie is about the first really decent pokemon you ever have to face - I usually find her the hardest of the gym leaders just because she's about the only one who's usually got higher levels than me, and that Starmie's hard!
Yeah I'm not overly keen on normal types...I agree that the game will be more fun with ones you like. Arcanine's always been my favourite so I'm going for him definately It is quite tough to catch pokemon in the safari zone I suppose...It works out cheaper though usually You'll be alrite without Psychic, you don't need to know every type in the game. The two things Psychic is good against - Fighting and Poison - you can already deal with using flying attacks (Pidgeot) and ground attacks (Rhydon will learn) respectively. Meowth unfotunately cannot learn confusion so you'll have to give that one a miss. And Thanks! Good luck on your next part - is that the rocket hidout or lavender tower or cycling road? lots of options at Celadon city ------------------- ![]()

re: Help |

Yea Misty is the hardest gym leader, she is the only one that takes me a few tries to kill her off... not literally ofcourse lol.
I caught a rhyhorn, he is weak and only knows like one good move though, so its going to be tough to train him, I am going to do that today. I just hate those stupid HMs! They just mess with your pokemon! I have never had a golbat before, I always get pissed when zubat is always all over you in caves so I just never wanted to catch one. I love growlith to, he is one of my favs, but I have charizard so I cant have two fires. I am about to go to silph co. I beat Koga or whatever his name was. I caught Zapdos after a long time of trying, so now I want to get all of my pokemon up to level 50 before I continue, and Rhyhorn is going to take a long time, I hope he gets better as he grows lol. I know it says you cant control pokemon past level 50 without the sixth badge, but zapdos listens to me so I think thats just for traded pokemon. I love the SS Anne, its such a great place to train!

Misty has beaten me before...when I chose Charmander a while back...I had to train an oddish to beat her
Rhyhorn isn't bad...but yeah it does learn all of it's good attacks at a high level. Have you taught Rockslide to anyone yet from the move tutor in rock tunnel? that may help. Yeah Zubat and Golbat are always so annoying in the wild - they're fast too, not nice for slow things to escape from. I expect I'll drop mine later in the game but I'm giving it a chance You're certainly getting through the game fast SS Anne is a great place, shame it sails away ------------------- ![]()

Oh yea, I do most of my training on those bike thugs on the top of cycle road! They are great experience.
I ended up using my rare candies on Rhyhorn to get him more leveled up. I have him at 30 now, so hopefuly i can get him leveled up soon. No I havent taught anyone rock slide. I hate caves so I normaly just rush through them, they are the worst part for me. I cant wait to beat this game, I did it on the original back in like sixth grade lol. After this I am going to play Ruby again, I dont remember if I ever beat it or not, because I played it when it first came out and that was a while ago. I have the diamond one, and I got all eight badges, but I miss the classic pokemon so I kind of stopped playing that one. I hate how the ss anne ships away, its sad lol. Thanks for all of our tips, you have been a great poke friend to talk with. How are you doing on your game?

Yeah caves are annoying
You get the seven islands to do on this game too so it goes on for longer than the original even I really want to start again on my Diamond but I did so much one my first (well second, I'm always so rubbish on my first attempt so I always do it again pretty quick) game that I don't really want to get rid of it now. I agree with missing the original pokemon, almost all of my favourites are from the first generation. I've enjoyed talking with you too ------------------- ![]()

Im on spring break now, lol. Yea, I am in college to. The original Pokemon Generation is now in College lol so weird though.
What are the seven islands? I never did that. Yea, I dont really remember the ruby storyline I was a sophmore in high school when I played and I dont really remember it. I just remember I didnt like any of the starter pokemon. I did like torchick but I didnt like the other levels of him, and the other two were kind of dumb to me. I also could never really get into pokemon contests, I have no idea whats going on durring them lol.

Ah ok, you have lots of time then
Ah you'll come to the seven islands a bit later on - you have the chance to do the first three after you defeat Blaine...I won't spoil any more I agree with you about the starters. In the end I found that the grass one - Treeko - became something I quite liked after it had evolved but overall yup I think they're the worst trio. Pokemon contests are indeed strange ------------------- ![]()

re: Help |

LOL I know, I didnt get the whole dressing up thing. It is nice to see them trying out new things though.
Should I do the first three islands after defeating blaine? Or should I wait until the end? I probably will pick torchick again, I really like the torchick but I dont like the older ones. I dont like mudkip at all, he is just dumb, and treeko is ok, but I dont really like grass pokemom.

re: Help |

Ha I know - I just plonked all the decoration stuff I had onto my entry...it seemed to work better than actually arranging it
I would always do them after Blaine just because they'll give you some more training before the elite 4. Also having seven islands to get through "after the end" can make them less interesting IMO. I don't like Mudkip either - although his water/ground type is handy - he just looks bad and is more defensive in fighting which isn't great for the game really...Yeah Torchic I quite like but when it evolves I loathe it! Grass pokemon do generally seem to fairly poor...Razer leaf is always the best attack - I hate solarbeam - so they always rely on sleep powder/leech seed stuff (defensive again) Treeko does learn leaf blade though which is a good attack - it is probably the best grass type pokemon out there but still I don't find it that spectacular. ------------------- ![]()

re: Help |

I dont like how torchic turns into a human on fire at the end. It makes no sense to me lol. I know it isnt really a human, but the way it looks is just weird.
OK I will try the three islands after I kill off blaine. Oh I found a great training site for my rhyhorn. When you leave the bike road on the bottom, and go directly down, you will find a gang of bird catchers with really high pokemon. So I played them like three times and raised rhyhorn like five levels and he evolved into rhydon. I am going to use my other pokemon to fight them as well, they were great in leveling up fast. Especialy since i was getting pissed rhyhorn was so hard to raise. Is the drill horn or whatever worth keeping? It only has 5 pp and it rarely works... but if it hits they faint no matter what...
