re: What starter will you get? |
quote Griffith Hawkins You base your starter choice on which is more effective against the first three gym leaders? Please people, just because a pokemon has a type disadvantage doesn't mean it automatically loses. And you do know you can catch more pokemon to use, right? You're not restricted to using only the starter against the gym leaders. ------------------- Made a new account.

I'ma get Charmander, 'cause when I got Blue version way back when, I chose Charmander (After I erased the file My dominering older brother created, insisting that he play it first even though I bought it with MY money.) I always liked charmander, and in gold, I chose Cyndaquill, and in Ruby, I chose Torchic. I love the fire types! And now is the chance to relive Red version.....But Advanced! So yea, I've babbled long enough. Charmander it is.

re: What starter will you get? |
quote Soul CataclysmI know I'm not restricted to using just the starter to battle the Gym Leaders. But, if you want to have an easy time at the beginning of the game, then Bulbasaur's the one you want to go with. Now, if we go by all these people who are picking Charmander for their starter, that's crazy (I admit I will have a Charmander also) because Charmander (and its evolutions) are going to have a hard time all the way until you get to Celadon and Erika. (If you go by Gym Battles) I would say the best way for me to solve this problem is to just say, everybody, find a friend who is going to buy the game also, and trade back and forth, until you and your friend each have all three starters. That's what I plan on doing, my younger sister is going to get Leaf Green, and I'm getting Fire Red, and we'll do a bunch of trading, so I don't really need to argue over which starter to get, because I'll have all three... If you refer to a guide about Type Advantages and Disadvantages you'll see that Bulbasaur (and it's evolutions) is stronger overall for the Gym battles. The Grass starter is strong against 3 Gyms, has an equal chance against 2 Gyms, and has a bad chance against 3 Gyms. The Grass starter has an equal chance against the whole Elite four, except for Lance. (Lance has Dragons I believe, but then again, what is strong against Dragons except Ice and Dragon anyway?) The Fire starter is strong against 1 Gym, has an equal chance against 3 Gyms, and has a bad chance against 4 Gyms. The Fire starter has an equal chance against the whole Elite four, except for Lance. (Again, the Dragon Types...) The Water starter is strong against 2 Gyms, has an equal chance against 3 Gyms, and has a bad chance against 3 Gyms. The Water starter has an equal chance against the whole Elite Four, except for Lance. (Yet again, with the Dragons...) So you see my reasoning NOW? Bulbasaur is about the easiest ride through the game. If you want a challenge, go with Charmander, he's gonna be hard almost throughout the whole game, and Squirtle is good at the beginning of the game, gets really bad, then gets good again near the end. But, like I said, I don't worry, I'm getting all three anyway...

Its going to be hard if you only have your starter on your team...arent you gonna catch any pokemon?? i agree on the FIRST gym it might be hard with charmander, cause the only pokemon that you can catch is ..normal types...and thunder...but the rest of the game it wont be hard...

re: What starter will you get? |
quote sprider_geakI didn't say that I was just going to have the starter in my team, you ARE allowed to catch other Pokemon for your team... I was just stating why Bulbasaur would be the best starter to choose. Everybody seems to be picking Charmander... So I decided to post reasons why Bulbasaur would be more effective during most of the game.

Good points, Griffith Hawkins. In reality, you are somewhat correct. Bulbasaur would be the ideal Pokemon to go with, but there's just something about Plant Pokemon that people don't really like, or at least just me. I mean, how many Plant-type Pokemon do you see people using? Even though some of them are decent annoyers. That's why I always choose the Fire-type or Water-type starter. Also, lets not forget that all three starters will have difficulty at one point or another, hence the reason why there's 6 pokemon in a party.

Well, I agree with Griffith Hawkins, I think that Bulbasaur is a very good starter, but not only that. I also think that Venusaur is the best plant pokemon in the game. But a plant pokemon can easily be replaced by an electric pokemon. -------------------
