anybody know if the new evolutions will be in the game? Like, will there by pichu and steelix and the other pokemon that weren't in the original but were evolutions/de-evolutions (is that a word?) from the original pokemon?

Yea there will. Most you probably have to trade for though. And you can only get those ones that you couldn't before after you get the National Dex. ♠

Apparently it is possible to acquire Pokemon such as Lugia and possibly Steelix and Scizor only after defeating the Elite Four.

there will be double battles.i don't know if pokemon can hold items in these games.

No, not all Pokemon are available in one game. You must trade in order to obtain all 386.
