The only way you can get mew is either use an Action Replay (cheat) or get the Japanese Version of Emerald.

Are you thinking of another pokemon? You can't get mew from New York. The Pokemon Center has a pokemon catching machine that will give you a pokemon, but you can't get legendary pokemon from it.

I think I remember reading that you can't as the translations between the games would be hard to do for a trade... but again I'm not sure as I have not looked into it. I believe Octarine Skye would know though...

Wow, so many people seem to be pretty sure of themselves, that, just because they see it on serebii, it must be true that Mew is obtainable in Emerald.
Sander is right as far as I know. Interesting thing though, has anyone looked into the truck rumor for Fire Red and Leaf Green? The truck is still there, for whatever reason, but has someone gotten to it to try using HM's? PS-About time you started posting again.. you jerk XD This message was edited by PRinCE SanDer(moderator) on Jan 06 2005. -------------------

There is no 'best pokemon' blazichu. Mew certainally isn't, if one exists. Even stats mean squat in terms of effectiveness in battle. And learning all TMs and HMs? wow. Most HMs are worthless(except for surf, mind you.), so...
And most TMs are a waste on mew, so it really isn't all that great. Mew = only way to explain mewtwo, which is much better. ------------------- Back from neoseeker, but just barely... Oh my god The Llama Song!

re: get MEW! |

The only reason I did this is because I live in Australia and we will probably never get those pokemon anyway.
Mew is a good pokemon because it is rare. I didn't mean to say it was the best A pokemon with Wonder Guard and no weakness would be impossible to beat Also a different colour Mew would have a ratio of 99:1

re: get MEW! |

You mean a Shiny Mew?
The ratio you gave was incorrect if that's what you mean. First off, the 99 and 1 should switch sides. The ratio you gave means that out of every one time you get Mew, it'll have something like a 990 percent chance of being shiny. I can't even explain it correctly, because it's so hard to. If I go way back to the days of Red and Blue, I remember that my team ALWAYS had a Mew AND a Mewtwo in it. Other party members were Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos, and I'd top it off with a Snorlax or Arcanine. Why did I use so many legendary Pokemon? Because I was a newbie, and thought that they were the best team ever. But now, after playing through Pokemon Ruby and Fire Red, I've learned that Pokemon don't have to be Legendary to be awesome and good strong team members. My point is that, Mew really isn't too important, unless you want it to finish your Pokedex. That is my say on the subject. PS- Sander... you loon... How dare you edit my post! :scream: -------------------

As stated as before, Mew can not be obtained as of NOW, but is possible in the future (only confirmed for Japanese Emerald so far) so no reason to keep this opened as the question as been answered.
As for you Griffith, even though it says I edited it, I only added a small welcome note welcoming you back to neoseeker.
