Yep, you have to make it all the way to the house by trekking clear through the Safari Zone. It was easy enough for me, I did it in about 400 steps. And I think you start with 600, if I'm not mistaken.

plus you can catch some cool pokemon on the way

yep you start wit 600 steps. nintendo were generous this time

on the last games u were lucky if u had 30 steps left over when u got there.

i think it only takes like 375/400 steps to get to the house
