world y-1 in Super Mario Bros (NES) |
|
I did this when I was about 13 years old with my best friend and I've always remembered it since then... My profession currently is SQA which is kind of ironic because when we originally encountered this, I immediately tried to reproduce the *bug* and record it. So we quickly hooked up the NES to the BETA or VHS... I can't remember because my dad had both... lol. We were able to reproduce it and record it. I want to see it again. The only problem is that I don't have the tape and I don't have a piece of the hardware needed to do the trick. If you can help, this would be sweet because no one talks about this one! You'll need 1) NES 2) NES Advantage 3) Super Mario Bros this is what I remember what we did... Mario was either: 1) between boards entering a pipe. (Just after he has entered the castle) 2) falling from the sky just after you grabbed the last coins from the vine in the sky (When you jump for the last 3 at the end). 3) Falling from the sky when entering into a new board. Like how you enter 1-2 I think #2 is the correct one... actually almost positive. Now what we did when we were at #2's position was 1) have the NES Advantage doing the rapid pause/unpause while pulling the controller in and out of the console. Somehow this combination brought you to a world labeled y-1 y-1 is a castle board that you swim through. And who thought -1 was the only secret world!

In the Famicon version there's three minus worlds. Here's a video from youtube that goes over them. At least their's isn't an endless loop.

I've never heard of the world y-1. As a matter of fact this topic is the only result I could find that's relevant to mario world y-1 on google.

yes it (-1) is an infinite loop in the standard version of super mario... the famicon one is different or whatever version it is.
the y-1 board isn't infinite... it's a swimming castle board... 1-4, 2-4, 3-4 ... etc. I did it as a kid on a console and I would pay anything to do it again. look how I did it by mistake. The other user here says he can do it on a ROM (but you can't talk about that) :-) AB
