Is it possible to run G2 from hard drive? How can I make that the game searches for data in its own directory (and not on the second disc)?
Just copy your whole CD2 to the fame installation folder and use a NoCD (FBSA)fix from megagames.

Just checked some visuals with G-Spot and I saw that the videos in the btl folder are using Cinepack codec and NOT Indeo like the VISUAL folder videos.

I'll check with installing Cinepak when I get home and then I'll come back to you guys with an answer

And YES!!

Works perfectly fine!!! The colors are even greater with a new GFX

OK guys listen up:

  • If you have a codec pack like K-Lite Unistall it, I think it messes with the codecs the game wants.
  • Cause they 're hard to find, I uploaded the 2 codecs on Rapidshare
  • Install Original Intel Indeo 3.2 (just double click the .exe file)
  • Install Original Cinepak codec (copy the ICCVID.DLL to Windows\System32\ and run the Cinepak.reg file)
  • About the resolution, I managed to get it to 1024x768@32 by choosing one by one the options up to 1024x768@32 and pressing OK. Made my key changes and the made config.cfg read-only.
  • Antialiasing 8x worked perfectly!

At my understanding the game does not work like a normal video player calling a codec that works, but instead it directly tries to use the 2 codecs itself in their default directory or something.

Please try this solution and let me know if it worked!

PS1: If you need me to reupload the file, email me: jpavly at hotmail dot com.
PS2: Greece FTW!

GmConfig = you should config this before you play the game.

I always config this before I play GD2.

I try it for many times if I do not config it before It'll show black screen/no movie.

enjoy

Whenever I open the "Grandia II" file, the game stays at a black screen. I need to Ctrl+Alt+Del to get out of it.

Anybody know how to fix this problem?

I already did the copy+paste for the uvms, visual and the vms files with the second cd.

I'm using Windows XP SP2, I'm sure this video card is more then good enough to handle this game.

Also, shouldn't we get bragging rights if we beat this game?

go to C:\GrandiaII\GMconfig and then press "Reset All" after that set resolution to "1024*768 32bit" so press "OK".

Enjoy

re: Grandia 2 PC Problems - READ HERE FIRST

I was also getting a "please eject and reinsert the CD" error, so I got the crack that was supposed to fix it. But now when I open the Grandia2.exe file I get a little black screen that says:

"Please configure the game with GmConfig.Exe"

I can go into my grandia folder and open up the controls configuration there, but it doesn't fix it.

Any advise?

Please reply to the thread, or you can also email me at EthanDavis2010(at)hotmail(dot)com

Thanks!

re: Grandia 2 PC Problems - READ HERE FIRST

I just want to notify you guys that I figured out how to fix the problem!

I had to replace the old Grandia2.exe with the new Grandia2.exe. You can't just copy the new one in the old folder with both of them in there. You actually have to delete the old one or replace the new one with it.

And for some reason, that fixed the "GmConfig.exe" problem.

HOWEVER, I'm having ANOTHER problem...

The game loads. I see the UBISOFT screen. Then I see the Game Arts screen. But then Windows Vista says the program stopped working. I have to close it. And it happens everytime. Right after the Game Arts screen, it crashes.

What can I do?

Well, I figured out how to fix that. If anybody has that problem, just copy and paste all of the folders from the CD to the Grandia folder on your C drive.

But, now that I'm to Millenia, she's only doing the "stram" attack and I can't die now...

I'm supposed to die, right?

Okay, I have another update.

When I minimized and reopened the screen, she then started using ONLY her bow attack, so she was able to kill me.

I guess minimizing and reopening the screen will change her attack.

Hmm.

Anyway, thanks for listening to me babble... XD

HOLY!!!

After Millenia FINALLY was able to defeat my with her bow attack (see last post)...

She hit me and hit me with the bow attack. Ryudo FINALLY died and said "I guess I don't deserve to be a Geohound."
It then went back to the main menu where my last save point was Tower, level three.

WHAT THE HECK?!?!

I thought I was SUPPOSED to die to her!

Help!

re: Grandia 2 PC Problems - READ HERE FIRST

Heya,

here's my problem:

- First problem: the game freezes during the first video after the first loading screen. I can hear the music but the screen is black. My computer doesn't respond anymore and I have to reboot.

Played the game on a friend's pc with no problems at all. At the first save opportunity I saved the game and I imported the savefile to my own pc. From that point on I could play the game without any problems.

UNTILL....

When I arrived at the grana cliffs, the video freezes, right after Roan wants to show the cliffs to the others. The movie starts and I see the first frame of it (the cliff seen from above). But the video doesn't start. The audio is just fine but the video freezes up completly and my pc becomes unresponsive again. Once the soundtrack is finished, it just restarts.

The particular movie is mcg02.avi

First I thought this was a codec-issue as I learned the game uses the an indeo codec to play back the gamevideos.
But I can play back the in-game videos perfectly fine on any of my players. So I'm pretty certain i've got the right codecs installed.

Could there be another reason? I note that some video files are named differently than the others. For example:
- the first video has some capital letters: mCG01.avi
- the video that freezes has none: mcg02.avi
Obviously I tried renaming the file without any result.
I also tried to get passed this point by removing the problemvideo from the folder. no result.

Things I've done so far:
1. I run the game in win98 compatibility mode
2. discarded my gamepad and continued with the keyboard
3. checked codecs
4. copied all video files from the cd to the corresponding folders on my harddrive

Yet, the problem remains. Are there any other options? I've read some posts of this thread and spotted some similar problems, but none of the solutions seem to work for me.
