First of all i'm french so my english can be bad sometimes ^^.
So after trying to make it run, i find a solution : ) As everyone think the probleme come from the videos. All i did is : try to open the videos with virtualdub *if this software show you an error while you try to open the video then download ffdshow and install it. after installation of ffdshow run the VFW configuration, go to the decoder tab, then assign the libavcodec to the cinepak(CVID) format it must be at the 17th lines before end. Now you're ready ! come back to virtualdub and open the video. In the menu go to Video > Compression, once here choose microsoft video 1, if you don't care about size let the quality parameter at the top(100), otherwise reduce it. Validate. In the menu Audio > Direct stream copy. Now save the video in the rigth directory : ) There are a lot of videos so it may take you a moment. For the game you have to set it in 16bit mode, if you don't the video will not work and the game will freeze :s I did this and now it still run without any problems and i use window vista. So i think it will work well under xp ^^ have fun guys.

Well I've recently come across a copy of Grandia II for the PC, but I can't exactly get it to run properly. I'm not sure where the problem lies, but nothing that's been mentioned has helped in any way. My problem lies in the Grandia2 and GmConfig executes. I try to configure the game but then I get an error message. "GmConfig.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." and then it does so. It's the same for the NoCd exe. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not, but a step by step process on the instillation would be helpful, from beginning to end of course.

phew I finally got the avi files working-
a note- just because you can watch the videos in any other player, even windows media player, doesn't mean you don't still have codec issues. I had the necessary indeo and cinepak codecs installed and I STILL couldn't see any of the movies in the game even though I could watch them in windows media player and virtualdub. here's what worked for me- I uninstalled most of the codecs on my computer and then reinstalled ONLY the indeo and cinepak codecs (both in this post) and now it all works! the logo movies, the intro movie and the battle effects movies. no doubt I will need the other codecs again so once I'm done with the game I'll install the Combined Community Codec Pack that seems to be decent...

So far i've not had any crashes. The Fallen Wings move does lock up for a second but it completes allbeit without letting me see all of the move. So far i've played as far as completing Durham cave. I'd avoid all this if my controller ports on Dreamcast weren't dodgy but i guess its not to be. Good luck everyone else having problems

Further to my last post it would seem the cut scenes don't play completely. For example after beating Mareg it cuts to a scene with Melfis, this then cuts out unexpectly as did the initial Granis Cliffs scene. Not going to be good if the same apply rest of way through

I don't know if these problems have been solved yet, i hav'nt followed the whole discussion, but since this is the only forum i could find on this game which helped me, i will confirm a few things just to help out:
1. The game did not work on Vista: it kept on asking for disc 2 once i installed it even though it was already in the drive. The game did not work on standard Windows XP: the CD would not even install, seemed like the CD was the problem at first cos of the weird noises but it was just that it needed service pack 2 which i had on another computer. 2. Some people can only hear the sound of the intro but cannot see the short film. if you wait to the end, the game sould load to the main menu. (see 4. for more info) 3. Millenia will cast zap as long as you do not do any of the tutorials. (zap is required to progress onto the game otherwise the tutorials will alter the ai fighting programming and you'll keep restarting and get stuck in a loop) 4. I am using a windows XP with service pack two. i got stuck after the millenia fight in problem one because the screen turned and stayed black after the two characters stopped talking. i downloaded CCCP (the codec pack you can find using google) and loaded it up. This solved the problem and i could play on. Thats the summary so far, i havnt got any further yet but i hoped i was able to help.

Hey, i have 3 small (though relevant) issues, the game apparently runs FINE and doesn´t crash, i have all the data and the no-cd crack on a folder (in fact, i moved just that folder with the game already installed, to my laptop).
Now, the issues are the following: - Highlight cursors don´t show up, either when i´m saving/loading, choosing special attacks/spells, or choosing talks with npcs. - The circle on the middle of the battle/main menu shows a weird texture - The spell casting auras also show a weird texture I already tried a bunch of stuff, and nothing worked :\ My laptop has a Nvidia 9300M GS EDIT: Nevermind, i updated the graphics card drivers and turned out to be perfect so far. (I wasn´t sure if the drivers wouldn´t even mess up my laptop, cause notebooks´ nvidia drivers are still BETA version) This message was edited by Johnnykey on Apr 12 2009.

GRANACLIFFS CUTSCENES AND ALL OTHER CUTSCENE PROBLEMS
I had this exact same problem. Cutscenes would not load for me and skills that played cutscneces such as Millenia's Fallen Wings, etc, would not work. There are two solutions to this. When a cutscene comes up, press F9. This skips its and you can continue the game. (This does not work for attack cutscenes) The second solution is as follows: 1. Go to your game directory. (ex. C:\Program Files\Grandia 2\) 2. Delete the configuration file. (Config.cfg) 3. Run the GameConfiguration GMconfig.exe. 4. Configure desired seetings then press OK. 5. Right click the newly created Config.cfg. 6. Go to properties and check the "Read Only" box. 7. Click OK and run the game. The cutscenes such as the beginning into and grannacliffs and attack cutscenes such as Zap or Fallen Angel should work now.

I'm having a problem with the in-game graphics on my pc version of the game. Faces, bodies, and walls will sometimes be see-through and parts of the surroundings will be black and blinking as I walk around. Is there a fix for this?
I'm using a laptop with Vista service pack 1 and an AMD Turion x2 dual-core 2.1GHZ processor. a 64-bit op system. an ATI Radeon HD 3200 vid card. can anyone help? This message was edited by sam98034 on May 16 2009.
