i think the space pirates were originally a peaceful race who became corrupt i also think they devoted life to science

i think that they were already evil and ambitious for domination of the galaxy.

hhhhhmmmmm (thinks about metroid) i think They where corrupt by mother brain your right i think they where scientist (doin tests on ridley and the Metroid) but then there are the soldiers (or mercinarys) who like Power (stops thinking)

OK iv got the Suggestion Story Mother Brain Promised the Scientists Unlimited Resorses and 'top notch' equiptment and he promised the soldiers powerful weapons and armies

(this is thinking about all metroids tho like prime not just 3)

True, but perhaps they were peaceful, and then they started using science and technology to get what they want, and enjoyed doing that.

I think the Space Pirates are a confederation of reptilian societies throughout the universe seeking to rule it completely. By the time of Samus's mission in Super Metroid, I believe that they were able to replicate successfully most of Samus's technology or at least have decent prototypes developed.
