To start, the idea for foreign troops is excellent. In history, they were there causing trouble a lot, but if you may have noticed by reading the books and playing any of the games, they never invaded and ended up taking over very far into the territory in China... So, why the hell can't I beat this game because Wu Wan is constantly attacking me!?

To give them 300,000 troops within the first minuet of the game is insane. While playing as Gongsun Zan, they just sit there at first, minding their own business. So, taking advantage of that, I destroy Gongsun Du and Liu Yu, just so I have them surrounded. I even ended up defeating Yuan Shao after the allegiance was over. But, despite how strong my castles were, they attacked me. I drove them off four times at one castle, each time they sent 40,000 troops against me there. They also sent other units to other castles, which I defeated as well. To beat that off with the same castle that started with 20,000 troops seems like a good accomplishment to me... So I figured after all their failed attempts, which left my dynasty extremely weak with only 1k troops in pretty much every castle, they'd stop. I mean, they can refresh their troops constantly, how could anyone stop that within the first year of the game? So, anyway, my castles are dangerously low on defense and troops are almost non-existant. I've scraped up all the men I could, from all of my ports, any that were able to be drafted, and sent them to Ji, the castle they want so bad. Doing that, I drove them off even more, Yen Liang and Wen Chou using onslaught is unstoppable and single handedly won me most of those battles. But, after two more times of driving them off, Gan Ning defected to Dong Zhou and my castle that supplied the rest with men was gone. Even with it, by loading my game and trying again, I couldn't beat 40,000 men with 2,000. How can anyone beat the game with Wu Wan constantly attacking you each month with a new huge army each time, giving you no time to draft men or repair your castle?

So, seeing my chances for defending were one in a million, I launched an all-out attack with my other file, every castle and port I had sent a unit to their castle to try and defeat it. First, I wanted to try a normal foot unit to attack, so it could be a surprise attack giving me a head start. Wiped out within four months, the arrows form the castle take out 4,000 men every shot.
Then I used rams, thinking I could take out the walls. Wrong. Defeated before they could reach the castle.
Then I tried to ally with Wu Wan by giving them gifts of gold and grain. Wrong again. They broke the loyalty at the same point they always do.

So thanks Koei, for making it impossible for me to win starting the game up north by the Wu Wan clan. They could of at least not gave them 300,000 troops... it's insane. All in one castle you can't defend from or siege.

Anyone else experiencing this problem, or am I the only Gongsun Zan fan?

i feel your pain. just wait until you move south by hui ju, the shan yu king does the same exact thing. If you move toward the bottom left of the map, the nan man king (not meng huo) does the same thing.They really made this one a challenge in doing that.

the only way for me was not to play any character that starts near the four corners. instead, i play anyone else and start taking over neighboring states quickly. after which drafting troops becomes so much easier. i conquered all of china ignoring the four corners, after that, send the WHOLE army to attack one corner at a time. this may take awhile, but it works everytime. you will never destroy all their army, but instead, with your big army, you will destroy the walls, which will end in their defeat. that's the way i've been doing it for awhile now, and it always works.

You see, the thing about that is, that would mean I couldn't play as Gongsun Zan or Ma Teng.

A different strategy a friend of mine told me was to build forts around the castle. I've built four forts, two on each side. When they attack one, the other reinforces it and I easily beat them. The thing is though, they constantly refresh their troops and they freaking use flying tactics like nobodies business. A pain in the ass, my troops are begining to lower and it isn't that easy to draft more men. >< I'm close to beating them, they're down to 140k troops. That's still more then all the other damn forces put together... which is insane on Koei's part.

I don't like those Foreign Troops too.I was battling with Yuan Shao Troops and they attack me and wipe my troops out and than they attack my only 2 catsles and game over for me!!!!!!

do anyone know how to beat 300,000 troops or at least defend them!!!!

It's not easy, I'll tell you that. A good way to do it is to get your trust full, so you can draft as many troops as you can and defend your castles at the same time, and get your trade up as well, to be able to afford troops and grain. Which force are you playing as? Might be able to help you out then.

By the way, I did finally manage to beat the foreign troops. Took me forever, like two years in the game, but you could say goodbye to the Wu Wan clan. If only I could execute the officers. To beat Shan Yue, I just used an all out attack with six castles, which each had 100k troops. Beat them in a few months, at the expense of a crap load of supplies and men. As for Nanman and Qiang, which both had 400k troops and such a late time in the game, I just completely ignored them and disposed of the only two forces left, Ma Teng and Sun Jian. Finally beat the game... Now I can play as Wu Wan and Shan Yue.

i beat 3 out of 5 foreign troops, but the other 2 keep attack me, what am i suppose to do!!!

hey LordMaChoa well u can beat wu wan troops. fisrt u got give them gift money get them to trust u. u need at 3 or 4 troops carry more then 3oooo troop use rammin stage or catupolt best use tactis like onslaugh,fly,running,mountin,airrow storm. i them wiht rammin wiht troops that carrys abt 4oooo troops or 35000 mean while got rally.resuce troops,if u beat u will get a weapon wiht war 10+ wiht tactis skill. same gose for other forgo tribes.

the only way to get them stop attackin u is u have earn their trust. just smilpy give them money once ur relate wiht them ar amcbiale just build up ur trops. pound smash them wiht rammin. rammin is fast troe their castle in two or three rounds depends on nnnnumber of troops u have. the best foreign troops r Quia damn they'er harder they all can use onslaugh. the key to beat all foregin tribes is to use catupol and rammin and tactis wiht, onslaugh to beat them when their comes back out, mean while ramm will be import so keep the rammin troops alive. the might have moroe troops but aim their weakness. rammin kill the deffnes, and fly,running,mountin, reduce their troops..

hey there are abt 6 foreign tribes ? or how many are there? shan yue,nahnam,wu wan,quia and two scerect ones which is the Wo tribes and Japan tribe, damn i found the Wo tribe by screahin near Hei Bai but the Japn tribe i dont know how get them. anyone know how?

but anyway, i just got the game, and i created about 20 guys, half of em evil, and make two seperate kingdoms, both of which i manage. the evil guys start down at Jiao Zhi, and the good at Cheng Du. my good guys make alliances with Nanman, but Shan Yue is always attacking me when i get Gui Yong, or sumthing (bottom of map, slightly in east). i built like 4 forts for them always attackin, but they took em all.

also, i took Han Zhong, and realized sumthin: its not smart to make enemies with both Qiang and He Jin(cus i play YT reb for plenty of conquerable areas)!!! i got attacked every like three seconds. but it was cool. see, they took that gate just north of Han Zong(i had like 500 ppl there), and they filled it with 30,000 ppl and 4 officers. I ttok it cus its defense was super low and got 30000 men, and that idiot He Jin kept askin for his guys back. Shyahh! I only do that wen good ol Sima Bu advises me to do that. otherwise, i refuse!!!

So there are 6 Foreign troops,does anyone know where to find the japan troops and how u guy know there are 6 foreign troops.

I never play as Gongzun zan, Mateng, Liu Zhang, and Sun Ce because it is close to The 4 tribes naman Shan yue Wuwan Qiang. I like to play as Liu Bei liu Biao Cao Cao and Yuan Shao
