Everyone Remember Their Poppy? |
|
I've got mine, just got it today actually, there's been a surprising lack of places I've been going to which have had donation boxes but a kindly old gentlemen got all the money I had on me (not much, but still a solid amount) for a poppy this morning.
I hope everyone has remembered to get their poppy, or will get one soon. =) ------------------- People who claim others of hubris have a SCARY trend of having it themselves...

Our teacher forgot to give us poppies at school so after class I went up to them and asked for one and surprisingly she had like 50 she forgot to hand out.

quote The DonI usually only give loones or toonies, which I thought I had. I already stopped in the middle of the sidewalk and pulled out my wallet, only to find I had 20s. I would've felt like a complete douche if I was like "oops, sorry I don't have any change".

There's no poppies in Ghana, unfortunately.
But this thread has reminded me of an old friend who's birthday is on Remembrance Day. I'll have to tease him about being born on the most depressing holiday. ------------------- ![]()

I've never purchased a poppy. Usually I just find them on the ground.

Do you know what I hate about kids these days (and teachers) more than anything?
When I was a kid, I was told never to clap when someone goes on or off of a stage in a school assembly on November 11th. These days, you have standing ovations. THIS ISN'T VETERANS DAY. NOVEMBER 11TH IS A MASS FUNERAL TO HONOR THE DEAD. In the 10th grade, they suddenly stopped telling students to not clap. I went up to one of the teachers and asked "Shouldn't they not be clapping?", and she said "Whatever." *bleep*ing idiots. You're not suppose to clap, you're not suppose to cheer your friends on for reading a poem about dead soldiers on flander's fields, and you certainly shouldn't be whistling and smiling. I just want to punch them all in the face.

Really? None of the students in schools here clap. I was sitting with the veterans so I could help them up and down and get to and from their homes for one of those services and not a single student moved unless they were specifically told to. I've never had an applause in any of the services I've attended.
@ Haz and Aya, as long as you guys are wearing one... =P ------------------- People who claim others of hubris have a SCARY trend of having it themselves...

I actually haven't got my poppy yet. I'll pick one up at work tomorrow. There's a box at the first lane so I'll collect up a good chunk of my loose change and grab one. ------------------- ![]() "When you go astray, I'll be there to punch you back."

People are actually keeping track of their poppies this year, and not dropping them for us scavengers. Drat it all!

No poppies in Americana but I did attend a little Veterans Day presentation after school yesterday. It was nothing special; however people had the opportunity to take the stand and say a few words. Surprisingly, many of the security staff are veterans of 13+ years.
