My best Sonic pair that helped me complete this game is Tails and Amy Rose because they both had an ability to avoid the difficult fight of the game when I was battling the evil black Emerl.

I have to agree with you there, Tails and Amy were the best pair in my honest opinion.

I'd have to say Sonic and Cream for me, Sonic gets the Air dash from Cream, both Tag Actions give you Cheese for a time period, and then with the Ait Action, you get a bit of height in you're jump. It's just seems like the only character combination for me that works.
