I have noticed that only one of the Chaos Emeralds is actually an emerald.
There's an emerald, a ruby, a sapphire, an amethyst, a topaz, and 2 I can't identify. Just something I wanted to point out. | |

I guess it was just a generic name they wanted to give them all, plus it sounds a lot catchier than something like "Chaos Crystals" or "Chaos Gems"

I've already noticed it. You see, there are six different Chaos Emeralds with different colors. They're not different rocks. They're different colors of Chaos Emeralds.

I've noticed that. They are all different colors but all called emeralds!
 Yea but I do agree it is a lot catchier than the chaos gems, or chaos emerald, ruby, topaz...ect.-------------------

True. the emeralds should be all green but for some reason they made it all in different colers. i wonder why?

Since they are "Chaos" Emeralds, perhaps their chaotic nature is why they are different colors.
