ok on your character, attack gives you a higher hit chance, defence gives opponents a lower hit chance. resistance reduces the damage you take.

so why when you get armour and the like is there "protection" as when you put the armour on this number doesn't seem to do anything to your sheet. i've looked all over for FAQs stratagy guides and all sorts, but nothing even hints at this.

its not much to ask for... all i want to know is:

"is there any point in using armour with a high protection rating, when it seems to do nothing?"

and

"so what does protection do/mean then?"

Isnt protection the same as defense?

Defense describe how succes you will avoid an attack.
With bigger Defense rating, chance enemy will hit you is decrease. just chek it, use shield in weapaon slot number one, and dont use it in no two. then see your statistic by pressing I (inventory) place your cursor at defense section, and you will see statistic on the most upper part of it. check how defense affect enemy succes hit to you. (just press 1 and 2)

and about armor.
I believe that armor is reducing damage you take.
the greater protection the less damage you get
that why protection divided into 5 category, physical, magic, fire, and poison.

Armor increases your protection to all types of damage, but defense keeps you from being hit. You should put points into armor, but also into agility and parrying to improve your defense.

Is there protection number or protection against... number. Some armor gives protection of 3 against poisin but protection of 5 against magic. It might be about the Kind of protection. Your defense might not go up because they balance out allthe ways you could get hurtwith all your protection numbers and even switching armor your defense coud be the same. Yet when fighting near archers using fire and having armor and weapons with protection against fire does not show-up in Defense but might Sow as you not loosing as much health or not getting burnd as often or for as long...

Protection might be protection from...magic, fire, ...
