I just bought phantasy star online version 2 at EB used... and it didn't come with the case, so I don't have a serial #... I know the online feature of the game is no longer available... I just want to play it OFFLINE..... BUT, I can't get pass the serial # screen to even get to the game.... am I up the creek without a paddle? I saw on some thread where someone said something about buying a key from sega.com ... but i got no interest in any of that nonsense... does anyone have any suggestions?

i suggest next time you buy a game second hand you make sure it has all it's components and accessories etc..
EB is a respectable store though. you might want to try going back and asking for a version with the serial and key cd. in the meantime, i'll email a contact at Sega and ask how this problem might be solved. check back in this thread in a few days This message was edited by Heros Destiny on Jan 10 2004. -------------------

thanks for the help... I went back to EB and the guy there said I could call the phone# on the game CD to put me in touch with someone who'd give me some generic serial# to allow offline playing. I tried the #, however, and got a recording saying the number was incorrect or wasn't working anymore....
hmmm... this looks like a pretty cool game I'd like to play, too :-P .... just let me know when you get word from the sega person you contacted  and thanks again | |

i've finally received a reply from a staff member at Sega. unfortunately, just like the guy at EB (now known as GAME here in the United Kingdom), the only consolation they can offer is to provide you with codes to play offline.
but unlike the guy at the store, i've been assured this method is 100% guaranteed, so you should be playing the game in no time. please note: this applies to both PSO and PSO II PAL games. the codes you will receive upon request will only allow you to play offline. only the original codes belonging to the game cd you have will allow to to play online. you can obtain these codes by sending a request via email to; Info@Segahelp.com hope that helps. they should reply to you within a few days with the codes  This message was edited by Heros Destiny on Jan 13 2004. -------------------

Hi, I have the same problem. I bought PSO version 1 for the dreamcast through ebgames.com. I didn't know about the serial number thing and of course, my copy didn't have one. I emailed the sega address above but they haven't gotten back to me yet. If either of you do have the codes, could you please email it to me at aemami99@yahoo.com? Thanks a bunch, the game looks cool from what I can tell by looking at the instruction booklet.

I forgot to mention it in the original post, but I bought a U.S. version. I think that is different from PAL (is PAL the european format)? So maybe the codes are different, I'm not sure. Please let me know if they sent you both kinds. Thanks

No two games have the same Codes.If you bought it preowned you may not be able to play the game online, which really isn't a big deal since nobody plays it anymore.
I would suggest getting a newer version like the one for Gamecube or XBox. | |

Can I have someone elses's serial number and access key (if thats also needed for the offline portion).
Being that the U.S. servers are down permanently (at least that is the impression that I am under), then NO ONE can play online correct? So if that is true, then there isn't any possibility of me ruining someone else who has the same serial number and access key. If I'm assuming wrong, please let me know, because I don't want to inconvenience anyone else. Thanks | |

Just import a Pal Version if you really want to play online.
And you don't need a Serial Number/Access Key to play offline. | |

I finally found the generic serial number that allows you to ONLY play offline. This only works for the NTSC version.
For future reference (since I'm sure other people buying this game used will have the same problem), the serial # is 17DFA62B. Access key is 000000000. Peace | |

i just got pso used for the DC. i had a copy previously and regisered it. will my new copy need its own code? Also, does ANYONE still play online?
