It's weird, huh Bandito...
I hear that both bands put on a hell of a show though, so...eh. Might catch one of their shows later on in life, provided they come to Australia. -------------------

quote BANDITO ATTACKI actually like Beneath the Massacre's Evidence of Inequity of EP, their full length just sounds generic tho. Also first Faceless release is also very enjoyable. ------------------- ![]()

Thanks Forte and Kiker, I did have a Death album downloaded, but I deleted it. It was called, Human, I think.
The vocals were okay, but hopefully the bands you mentioned have softer vocals too.

I found the Faceless album to be okay. I find technical riffing to be fun, but it got pretty stale in that album. I think I'm going to listen to some Autopsy now... I still need to pick up Mental Funeral, but Severed Survival is quite awesome enough for now.

Mental Funeral is real asskicking stuff. Some of the best death/doom out there, next to the death/doom that Winter, Asphyx and My Dying Bride have released.
quote Shao DarHave to agree. Second time I listened to it (just to see if I can really get into it - sounded badass the first time), I couldn't get through it halfway because it got way too stale and repetitive. quote IcedevilDon't forget trying to be as brootal as possible. -------------------

I think The Faceless' first release "Akeldama" was and still is one *bleep*ing impressive piece of work. It actually has a lot of variety, and the title track is unlike any instrumental I've heard in death metal before.
Gotta say that "Planetary Duality" just doesn't do it for me, though. I don't enjoy putting it on, I can't sit through it, it doesn't have the same vibe. I just got a couple of Necrophagist albums, so I'm gonna be checking that out soon. ------------------- NO, HE DIDN'T.YES HE DID.

The techinicality of the duet feature on Leica from the Akeldama CD is like a masterpiece.
As well as the song Akeldama itself. dont come across too many songs that are in 7/8 time(i believe?) that flow as nicely as that one. ------------------- I'm not afraid to die. I'm afraid to live, and not remember why... ![]()

Holy shit, I got around to listening through a couple of Necrophagist albums last night, and I'm blown away. There isn't a whole lot of variety in the vocals (but that's true for most death metal, so what do I care?), but that shit is intense.
Props for the recommendation, folks! Anyone listen to any Sleep Terror? I can't dig the new stuff with the vocalist, but their instrumental EP from, I wanna say '06, was some incredibly impressive stuff. Just a guitar and drums, to top it. Very jazzy experimental stuff; I'm not even sure I'd call it death metal, per se, but it's got elements. ------------------- NO, HE DIDN'T.YES HE DID.

WTF, when did Sleep Terror get a vocalist?
They're pretty good and like you said, it's not really that death metal. -------------------

I wish. Those guys do some great punk. This is a death metal thread, though.

P...unk? Not hearing that.
It's more like experimental progressive fusion metal with a lot of techy jazz. But there are elements of DM, so I was curious. I'm not a fan of categorizing everything to the nth degree. ------------------- NO, HE DIDN'T.YES HE DID.

No, I was joking about the statement above mine that said "queers". My course of action was to refer to the punk band of the same name, haha.

Damn, this thread hasn't seen the light of day in a while.
SO anyway, I feel I should show some more death metal. Haven't really been listening to a whole heap lately, but what I've listened to is *bleep*ing good, and I think everybody should listen in on it. First up is Morpheus Descends. Plain and simple, it's brutal death metal that doesn't suck. Next up is Arghoslent. This is real melodic death metal, not that flowery In Flames bullshit. In Flames and such put some emphasis on melody and have harsh vocals, but completely forget the death metal part. Bands like Arghoslent remember the death metal part, AND put more emphasis on melody than bands like... well, Morpheus Descends! Oh, and the riffs kick ass. Next up, let's slow down the pace a bit. I had to choose out of a few, but ended up going to Runemagick. Not much to say, other than HOLY *bleep* WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE!? If you've heard Swedish death metal before, it's got the key elements, like catchy riffs and whatnot. Now just imagine it slowed down, sort of like a Swedish Autopsy. Let's up the pace again with some old-school tech death, Brutality. Had these guys in my library for ages. Hell, I even made a thread for them. Nobody paid attention though, so I'll raise awareness in this thread. *bleep*ING FULLY SICK riffs, no fapfap bullshit anywhere (okay, maybe a little) and overall, some really excellent death metal. Let's finish up with something a little interesting, Empyrean. Symphonic death metal... I can't really say at its finest, because to be honest, I haven't heard much in this category. This, and Of Celestial, are the only symphonic death metal bands I've heard, and for good reason - the brutality of death metal doesn't go hand in hand with a symphony, but I think this band is still worth a listen. Hopefully, this might bring back some activity in this thread. -------------------

Of all the bands (besides Arghoslent who are awesome), I liked Runemagick and Empyrean the best.
