re: Electronic Dance Music II

Picking a top 20 is always a difficult task. I remember reading through a trance.nu thread a couple of years ago in which posters were arguing over the State of Trance end of year listing. I think it was the year Proglifter came out... 2006? Here is the Transitions show top 15:

01 Robert Babicz - Nuda [Wr]
02 Nick Muir - Ain`t Nobody
03 Guy J - Geko [Bedrock]
04 Fwd - From A Deep Place ( Jimpster Remix)
05 Vincenzo - The Phantom Image [Poker Flat]
06 Shonky - Bushes [Freak N Chic]
07 Argy & Sydenham - In The Mist [Poket Flat]
08 Myomi - Sun In My Eyes (Paul Woolford Remix) [Cr2]
09 Radio Slave - Grindhouse (Dubfire Terror Planet Remix) [Rekids]
10 Peter Dundov - Oasis [Music Man]
11 King Unique - Sugarhigh (Ku Remix) [Curfew]
12 Virtualmismo - Mismoplastico (Serge Santiago Remix) [Arcabaleno]
13 Bedrock - Beautiful Strange (Jd Nm Remix) [Bedrock]
14 George Delkos - Deftoner [Drag And Drop]
15 Timo Mass - Subtellite [Cocoon]

A very different selection of tracks from ASoT, to be sure. I still need to compile my favourite albums/compilations of 2008, too ;o

I saw the New Year in at Fabric (huge club in London, for the uninitiated). It was a mixed experience, though - the venue's lovely and the music was great, but it was so packed. At times it was impossible to dance, at times very difficult to even move, and it spoiled the night somewhat. Still, I enjoyed hearing Dixon, Ame and others play. Some photos:

Oh wow Requiem, that must have been crazy expensive to get it. A student club in Manchester were asking £15 to get in, I can't even imagine what the prices were to get into Fabric.

I was flipping through some songs on the way to the club to get myself in the mood

I heard this song and I thought it was tight

Well I'm off to see dedamau5 tomorrow night at the Family, rated the #1 club here in Oz. Thought I'd give you guys a taste of what I'm going to get to hear. Loves it.

Just to let everyone know deadmau5 was mind blowing. Better than Tiesto. I will put his set last night on par with Daft Punk's Alive tour, which I thought couldn't be equaled. If you get the chance to see him live I highly recommend you take it.

Not a very good remix tbh. The bassline is really poorly done. Wrong pitch and not very well integrated with the percussion. Kind of ruins the whole track. The song is very minimal too, there's hardly any instruments. Sounds like a 10 minute job.

Might as well post my latest track here for those interested. =P

re: Electronic Dance Music II

I'm liking your track a lot, Enigma, I think there are a lot of interesting elements that you introduce throughout the composition that keep it from being repetitive, be it subtle effects or variations of the main hook. It sounds like a very thoughtful and mature production, though I'm no trance expert (Nightmusic and Anjunabeats tend to be my only forays into the genre at the moment). What kind of feedback have you been getting from trance-dedicated websites, like trance.nu or trance addict? My only reservation (and it's more of a personal preference) is that I've never been keen on tracks that immediately start with a thumping bass drum, instead preferring a more gradual build up.

Glad to hear you had a good time, Euphoric, was Deadmau5 mainly playing his own productions, or did he add a lot of other tracks to his set? Do you have any photos from the night?

Anyway, a few compilations coming out in March for you guys to look out for:

James Zabiela - Renaissance Masters Series
Joris Voorn - Balance 014 (102 tracks!)
Timewriter - Deep Train 6

re: Electronic Dance Music II

I think this might just possibly be the best song I've heard for almost a year or more. I just can't get enough of it, even the *bleep*ing intro just blows me away.

I love tracks that start with a thumping bass. My biggest influences are Airbase and Vincent de Moor, you'll probably hear some similarities between my music and those artists if you ever listen to them.

Thanks for the feedback though. I haven't posted my track at any trance websites yet, I might just do that. Could be helpful for improvements in the future. I'll start with a more gradual build up on my next track. ;)

I want.

You should definitely start blogging any new tracks you make as I like to build up my collection from all over the place. It's great to have tracks to play that no one I know has ever heard before.
