re: Metallica [V]

I'm in love with this band, really.

I'm late to the party and so far only up past St. Anger (Not really impressed, btw.)

My friend let me borrow the S&M Metallica album, and I love it. I never looked at Battery the same way.

But yeah, My favorite ranked album so far is Kill'em All mainly because of Whiplash, Jump in the Fire, and The 4 Horsemen. I like Master a little, and Ride the Lightning was also good too!

re: Metallica [V]

Am I the only one here who doesn't think Master of Puppets is Metallica's best album, AND is a fan of Metallica? I mean, I loved Battery and Damage Inc, and the titacular song was cool except for the overlong mid section. If the other songs were as good as the first and last songs, Master of Puppets would be consistently awesome. The problem is that the other songs just plodded on and on. I don't have ADD or anything. I enjoyed And Justice For All. Master Of Puppets just doesn't seem to give me the same sort of feeling I should have for And Justice For All or Ride The Lightning, which it should.

What about Sanitarium and Orion? Both great songs, and definitely not "just plodded on". Though I agree that Master of Puppets isn't their best album. I would rate it as third, after the black album and Ride the Lightning.

There is no other, the only band that deviated my attention from Rap music. Nothing Else Matters is a Perfect song.

I will admit, Sanitarium isn't that bad either. Starts off a bit on the uninteresting side, but definitely shows that Metallica can be melodic without being overly boring.

Orion isn't half bad either. The bass riffs were pretty cool... actually, all of the melodic sort of shit that happened 3:50-6:55, definitely the highlight of the song. Can't say I really cared for the rest of the song - in particular, Kirk's and James's riffs and solos, which just felt like your average everyday heavy/thrash metal riffs taken from Exodus and Overkill, or off their other instrumental, The Call Of Kthulu.

Master IS GOOD, you have to give it that. However, the best Metallica album ever, no. I still say Ride the Lightning outclasses it with things like Ride the Lightning and Trapped Under Ice.

Metallica is changing, which is pissing me off. They need to look back at what they did, and start doing it again.

I like S&M over most of their albums, mainly because the chorus is awesome in the songs.

Yeah I agree ride is probably my favourite too, but the thing is all good thing eventually come to an end, in metallica's case it was quite early. I hate their new album quality, just sounds crappy, its not because of how new it sounds compared to the 80s but still the snare drum, st anger's snare was loads better in my opinion. I think metallica should just stop because they arent making progress with any new classics and probably never will, maybe with money but not with fans or anything

Metallica shouldn't stop, no. All they need to do is look back and see what they WERE doing, and do that, like I said. Why stop a great band while they still a huge fanbase and a lot of ideas left? Death Magnetic wasn't THAT bad, but it wasn't fulfilling enough. I like All Nightmare long.

That snare in St. Anger made my ears bleed.

St. Anger has horrible volume issues. All you hear are drums and James. With some undiscernable guitar rifts and nearly non-exsistant bass.

This volume issue has been happening since ....And Justice For All, Ironcially their first mainstream album if you will. What with their first music video and all. I blame the industry. Rick Rubin isnt that amazing, He botched a pretty decent album.

Also you do realize the Death Magnetic was Metallica looking back at what they did in the 80's and doing it again right? This was stated in interviews.

So this is what you get when metallica looks at their old style and draws from it. Stop bitching. DM Was a great album on its own right. Just not the best Metallica Album.

Personally:
Ride The Lightning > Master Of Puppets > Kill Em All > Death Magnetic > ...And Justice For All > The Black Album >>> Load >> St. Anger >>>>> ReLoad

Pure opinon. I know people who recently became fans of metallica due songs like The Day That Never Comes.

They wanted to have mainstream sucess. They flat-out stated it when they made the Black Album. They wont stop when they have an ever increasing fan base and are one of the most lucrative bands around. I cant wait for their next record. It couldnt come sooner. Bands evolve and thats something you should accept. Just because its not the same song over and over again doesnt mean its not good and they should stop.

I still think Death Magnetic is a superb album, it's really stood the test of time in my music library.

Ride The Lightning > Master Of Puppets > Black Album > Death Magnetic > ...And Justice For All > Kill 'Em All > Reload > Load > St. Anger

re: Metallica [V]

The songs themselves are probably some of Metallica's most technical work, though that of course doesn't mean it's their best. What really lets the album down is the poor production - the drums 'click' rather than thud, the guitar is very thin and tinny, and the bass is virtually non-existent.

...And Justice For All is probably one of my favorite albums from them. Though I like Ride the Lightening, Master of Puppets and possibly the Black Album(this got me into Metallica) more.

I really like ReLoad alot. Lots of amazing songs on there. And I love how they leave off with Fixxxer (which is a near perfect song) which is all about looking back on your life and wondering where it went and determining to make a change. And then BOOM. St. Anger comes out and it's like a mother*bleep*ing sXe anthem album. St. Anger is a 5 star effort.
