Branching from your "type" |
|
I tried to listen to some Chris Brown and Jay Z just to be open minded ... and I didn't like it. I didn't listen fully through any song ... but if the first several seconds doesn't even appeal to me ... I want to fast forward to see if it's still worth it.
I didn't like one song. Not just Chris Brown and Jay Z ... but I find that whatever hip hop I've ever heard barely ever appeals to me. It's always about "the girl", just all bling and "the shit" or growin' up in "da hood". The sound of the music just usually doesn't align with me. The only Chris Brown song I sort of like is Gimme That (Remix) Has anyone else REALLY ever tried to listen to music other than their "type" just for the sake of being open minded? What did you think?

Yeah, I tried listening to screamos, metal, and hardcore rock and I just can't seem to like it. They yelling is too much for me. If it was more like soft-rock, I'd be able to listen to it easily. For example, I happen to like Nickelback, they're not too much of a screaming band.

I have tried listening to rap. Not all of it's completely awful, but I just couldn't listen to it for very long.

re: Branching from your "type" |
quote EmoliciousnotSame here ... although I avoid pop. IMO the only pop that was ever good was by Michael Jackson ... and I'm NOT saying that JUST because he suddenly became all famous again after he died. I actually listened to his songs back in the 80s As for his fame now ... that's another story I'm not even gonna talk about. I respect him ... but it's so stupid how everyone suddenly gave a *bleep* after all these years (since his fame faded many years ago) Yeah I also like electronic music, mainly Trance but sometimes I explore outside my zone. Once in a while heavy metal or some kind of hardcore music is cool to me but too much crazy yelling turns me off. Either that or the sound of the guitar is just too crazy. Sometimes it's as if they got high on drugs (and I wouldn't say Alexisonfire is heavy metal ... but I heard a song and he was DOING NOTHING BUT INCOHERENT YELLING) I think there can be a difference between hardcore and CRAZY music. I could never imagine liking country music. Bleh. And yeah sometimes I regret I bothered. This message was edited by legomyeggo on Oct 31 2009.

I'm a Hip Hop head, and I've tried Metal, Rock, Country and Jazz, Only genre that I didn't "like" was Metal. No offense to anyone but it doesn't appeal to me.

I tried to listen to Rap. It's not something I can enjoy. Just the overall feel is wrong for me.
Same goes for Country. The only songs I can stand are those REEAAALY old ones like Ring of Fire. Other than that, I can't stand much of it. I'm a rock/metalhead. I love the sound of a wailing guitar. I DON'T like screamo, however. ------------------- ![]() "The first blow is the most important. It often negates the need for a second." -Agrus Kos

quote legomyeggoI like Metal, Heavy Metal, Alternative Metal, (mostly Tool), Hard Rock, and Stoner Metal, (Bongzilla). I like one country song that I heard on the radio. And believe it or not, METALLICA did it. It was their version of "Tuesday's Gone" by Lynard Skynard. Hate Skynard's version, (as much as I hate to say it), but love METALLICA's version. One of my favorite songs. ------------------- ![]()

I tried that with hip hop/rap. I used to hate it, but then I decided to see how I felt about it currently. And I can't sit through a lot of it, especially all the stereotypical shit about sex, money, or being better than everyone else. But I've found several songs that I really enjoy.
