Just this week, I had the pleasure of hearing this American rock band fronted by a girl, Amy Lee, when their first album track, "Going Under", plays out the credits of Shiny Entertainment's multi platform Matrix game, "Enter The Matrix". Research turned up the track through memory of as many lyrics as I could, and from there, I discovered their heavy dominance of the OST for the recent Ben Affleck flick, "Daredevil".
The band brings a unique, fresh sound to rock music in my opinion - it's been some time since we have had a good group fronted by a girl. The last I recall was Garbage, at least, the last fronted by a girl that I liked. The 45 minute debut album is mostly written by the band members including Amy, the lead singer. Although the band stem from Christian roots like Creed, they are keen to avoid heavy ties in their songs to avoid alienating their fans like some listeners of Creed have been. Their debut album, Fallen, is available on Wind Up Records and has already gone platinum, with a chart entry here in the UK at 18, rising to 7. ------------------- Kiefer Sutherland on ending 24: "I see Jack as a really human figure and there is something innately tragic about people. I think there is no winning."

Well, they sure are commericalized. The people at The Box on SKY play "Bring Me To Life" so many times, I actually start to turn it off.

I jsut ordered their CD from amazon before I saw this. I've seen teh 'Bring me to Life' music video like 300 times. They are good, like Creed with Linkin Park and a female singer.

I heard them. I thought they were okay. I wouldn't purchase their album though. The singer sure can sing and they're not bad musicians but they are definately not my style. If you want to hear some other good bands with girl singers I suggest Calamine, Rilo Kiley, and one of my favorites Sonic Youth.
quote demon buttercupI agree. I don't think the rapping sounds good in that song at all. ------------------- This link right here goes to my band's site.

I have heard them. Yes, they are OKish, but here is my point.
They are trying to be like Gothic bands, as most goth bands have female vocalists, so they aren't unique in this way. It is just because they are American they are heard of, as most goth bands are Scandinavian or European. So I don't believe that they are unique in any way. -------------------

re: Evanescence |
quote RaikazokouActually, they aren't trying to be Gothic, they are trying to be rock. The cover of their album may make you think they are trying to be gothis though. So, they are unique, not many rock bands have female singers. Oh, and the rapping in 'Bring me to Life' is only in that song, or acordding to my best friend. ------------------- ![]()

Gothic bands don't necessary have to be all in black and with the corpse paint on. Gothic style music is metla music, which can be ranging from black to rock, with a female vocalist usually. That is why they have elements of gothic music. That is why I think they aren't unique.

re: Evanescence |
quote RaikazokouI never said they ahd to wear black and stuff, I was just saying that they are not gothic, and they aren't trying to be gothic, acording to Amy Lee (the singer) they are trying to be Rock. Plus, if you listen to their whole CD, there is like barely hint of metal music except in 'Bring me to Life.' Plus, a lot of people consider them a Christian band. So basicly they are like Creed meets a female version of Chester from Linkin Park, that doesn't scream and shout all the time. ------------------- ![]()

I see your point. I can see that they are being Rock, but still feel that there is a tiny bit of Goth in there, just my opinion. But yeah, they are more Rock though.
I can't see how people could see them as a Christian band though! -------------------

re: Evanescence |

However why must we attempt to categorize them? Just let them be Evanescence. Usually when attempting to catorgize groups we try to place them in a group they dont belong so we can call them posers or other such names. They simply have great music. I for one, am not attempting to subject them to grouping.

Usually bands that can't be classed into a type of music are known as playing Alternate Metal. Maybe they should go in that.
