pyramid head and sh movie |
|
i think im the only cheerleader whos obsessed with sh /probaly cause ive been playin it since the original first came out/. anyway in the movie pyramid head is there BUT in the games Pyramid Head can only be seen by James and Maria because he is created by James mind and bought to life by SH's powers. So why is Alice and Cybil able to see him /im kinda pondering on Cybil since most ppl opt to kill her in the game and the movie changes story bg around/. eitherway its a good movie its just the story change

the thing about the movie is that its not considerd series 'canon'(part of the series storyline) basically the events in the games and movie are separate, in a way, the film is not an official part of the main storyline that the games are in, they are separate, just like the silent hill comics, they are not properly official
i think pyramid head was added in there just to please fans, as he is a populor character, i dont know how much the script writers knew that pyramid head was a figment of james' guilt etc.... maybe they did not know that so they put him in anyway, even though it contradicts the theory that he is the only person who sees the pyramid head, i dont know if whoever wrote the scrips has ever played silent hill 2 ------------------- ![]() [my guestbook]

I couldn't imagine what it would've been like in the game if Pyramid Head at some point had given Maria the Anna treatment.

Well you see, that's a problem in itself. Pyramid Head is a psychological monster. His menace doesn't come from what he does to you physically, but what he makes you see, and feel.
Maria's deaths by PH were all played out not for gore factor, but to stab at James' mind, and hit him where it hurts. Wanted James to give up, become a lost soul so the Gods of Silent Hill could claim him. James' final test was on the roof where he met the imposter spirit of his dead wife. When he accepted his guilt instead of denied it, the Gods lost their chance to claim his soul, and the imposter spirit turned into a demon entity, and attacked. Depending on how you play however, James may still give in to the 'call'. Anyhow, the story on the film is that the Director loved Silent Hill 2. But you can't make a movie based on Silent Hill 2 without introducing Silent Hill. SH2 was a standalone game, as all of the plot elements and history of the town were given more or less, in SH1. So naturally, instead of taking the time to make a movie based on just the first game, and work it as true as possible, Hollywood decided to take shortcuts. So in the end we got a very *bleep*ed up hybrid of SH1 and SH2 plot elements in the movie, directed well, but poorly executed scriptwise. It was a cluster *bleep* of things that never needed to meddle with each other, pretty much sabotaging the chances of legit Silent Hill Harry Mason and James Sunderland movie adaptations. Hence, PH has his role in the film, but it's entirely thrown in there as background references, completely misplaced given the movie was more or less SH1 oriented. Sad, but whatyagonnado? That's Hollywood, they love messing up video game film adaptations, badly. At least SH was enjoyable visually. Up next is a dogshit Castlevania film involving WWII and Nazis... Paul W.S. Anderson destroyed Resident Evil, moves on to Castlevania. News at '11! ------------------- N O T H I N G I S T R U E / E V E R Y T H I N G I S P E R M I T T E D

It's still better than that House of The Dead crap though, hopefully Sam Raimi won't *bleep* up Forbidden Siren too badly. If Raimi can't make a good survival horror film adaption then there is no hope. Just don't give Bruce Campbell a cameo as a comedy Shibito.

In making the SH movie, they wanted to take elements from all of the games, thats probably why PH is in it.
If you think about it, they have the SH1 storyline with a female lead, like SH3 and PH from SH2. Get it now? -------------------

Not entirely. The director wanted to really only make a movie based on Silent Hill 2, but realized he couldn't without telling the tale of SH1 first. So instead of just focusing on SH1, he swiped elements from SH2 and threw them in there needlessly.

I don't know, I think he could've done. For instance, you don't have to have played SH1 to understand or appreciate SH2.

Well, I've seen the movie, and played most of the games.
I've not played SH1, but I've played SH2 all the way through at least ten times, and part of the way through many, many times. I've played SH3 from start to finish 6 times (and if you've played the game, then you should know how many endings it has, so I've done more than what's necessary). I've played SH4TR three times from start to finish, and once until I was about half way through, and then some freaky thing happened where I lost a key item that I needed (don't know how) and had to start over from the get go. Origins (PS2 version) was freaking awesome, and it has a very similar character to Pyramid Head, who plays a slightly similar role in that game (I've gotten all of the endings on Origins). So that's a background of my experience. In the movie, the characters encounter something that even the producers refer to as "Red Pyramid", not "Pyramid Head". Also, as a side note, they gave the name "Armless" to the creatures that have always (and should always be) been called "Patients", because they look like they're in straight jackets (as opposed to having no arms, in the game they are representations of insanity and the mental hospital that is so important to the series). Red Pyramid bears several differences to Pyramid Head. Even his behavior and actions sometimes seem different from what Pyramid Head would most likely have done in the same position. There's of course the one particularly unpleasant scene, where he... well, you know. And then tosses the bag aside, basically. But Pyramid Head certainly seems more prone to using the freaking huge blade he's got. So he'd probably just cleave people in two, or keel haul his enemies like the Butcher does in Origins. Alice (and Cybil, by proximity) is able to see Red Pyramid because... uh... I think it's because Red Pyramid represents some element of their own inner torment. Yeah. Something like that. Even in the interviews and behind-the-scenes footage I've seen (I own the DVD, and I'm into that sort of thing, being a 3D model creator and a writer), no one explains this element, which leaves a void of confusion in the plot for those who know what's really going on. Some might say that having Pyramid Head away from James at all is a bit of a stretch, but isn't he supposed to be in SH5, too? At least, that's what I've heard. So unless the main character in SH5 is carrying around a lock of James' hair or some such silly thing, I think the rules are changing. Whether that's good or bad, I don't know. But having the movie feature a Displaced Element (something profound and important, that was missing from some original, previous media - the original game) is odd and inappropriate enough, without giving it a strange name and failing to explain his/its presence. And where's the eye hole? What's up with that? In SH2, PH always has this little hole/slot in his pyramid, as is indicated by at least two cut scenes in the game. The movie directors claim to have played the game, saying something like 'We of course played Silent Hill a lot, but Silent Hill 2 was a great source of inspiration' (that's not a quote, folks, just me trying to come as close as possible, after not having watched the interview for a couple of years or so), but if that were the case, then what the heck? Why are there so many inaccuracies in representation? It's one of my pet peeves. Also, there's nothing wrong with being a cheerleader who loves Silent Hill. It's one of the best darn series ever, so don't let anyone say it's weird for you to like it. I was an athlete once, too. Not a cheerleader, but I wasn't always a guy who sits around most days, watching old mystery movies and playing my DS at the same time. ------------------- I am a writer, digital media creator, and reviewer of all things.
