ATI Radeon updating?

I'm a total noob when it comes to hardware and drivers =/

How do i apply this update:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/118102

I need to update my graphics card, hoping that things will run smoothly/at all, some of my games are just choking and dying, or refusing to start up. I'd assume even my out-of-date card should be able to run this but it's not, just a black screen. At this point i don't much care if i can't play assassin's creed for now, i just want shit to work. ;-;

re: ATI Radeon updating?

First off, sadly, the x1270 is an integrated chipset. Do not expect good performance from it in anything. I have an x1400 in a laptop, and it's pretty weak, too, and it's not an integrated chipset.

BUT, go to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and follow the steps. I don't know what OS you are using. Even just browsing through them, I don't know exactly which one to choose for the 1270, as it doesn't list it.

It says you can download it from the link you gave, but it looks awfully large to be an ATI driver, but you can give it a shot. To install it, you first uninstall your current drivers through the Control Panel/Add or Remove programs and find the ATI drivers. Then, restart, then run the file you downloaded and do another restart.

re: ATI Radeon updating?

Nope, sorry. When you get a laptop, you pretty much are limited to upgrading only the CPU and RAM, along with the hard drive.

And i'm guessing there's no way to either jerry-rig that, or make programs that don't show up shop up with shit graphics?

re: ATI Radeon updating?

Nope, especially if you have integrated graphics, you won't even have PCI-e slot to have a video card to go into. And integrated graphics are built right into the motherboard (not removable).
