5000 Series Or? Help |
|
Alright, I got a partial answer from another forum but the forum is slow responding x.x... so ya... Basically here it is.
Scroll down past next line to cut to the chase. ----------------------------------- I am looking to build a new computer soon and one of the things stumping me on price and just selection as I haven't upgraded a Video card for awhile. What I plan to do with the video card in the new system is Game here and there that is high powered and I "will" be running 2 Monitors at 1920x1080. I do use photoshop here and there but it isn't essential to my build so any higher end Gaming card could handle it. I am getting better and better at learning more but I am still a bit confused what Extra video memory would do for me. But So far I've been told to just go for one single more powerful video card, originally I was planning to Crossfire 4870's or so but now I have my eye on this: EVGA GTX 275 1792MB (Edit: Now looking obvious at the 5000 Series when released soon) I need some insight what the best bang for my Buck would be. My limit is near what that card is, I would pay a small amount more but not much. I plan on using this new system for couple years before upgrading so I am spending now rather then constantly upgrading later. - Second post with Quote -------------------QUOTE------------------------- Quote: when are you going to build this system, because the next generation dx11 cards are coming out from ati and their top end single core card is supposedly 1.6 times faster than the 4890 so it might be worthwhile to hold out and wait till the end of the month beinging of october with your build -------------------------------------------------- I am more then willing to wait I was unaware of of these cards coming out, but will they be within my Price Range? -Edit- Found some pretty recent estimates on prices, So more or less I think I would be looking at the 5870 or 5870X2, Again I am not sure if the X2 would do much for me. What I really need a new card soon for is Operation Flash point 2 which I am getting on Oct.7th and it sounds like from what I've read at least 5000series would be releasing around then. Not to mention also Win7 coming out. ------------------------------- In a nut shell I need to keep it under 400$ish Canadian( So... like 350$ US) can't keep stretching the bill, the best bang for the buck and enough longevity to last me 2-3 Years. ----------------------------- So my questions are: -Is 5000 Series going to be worth it regardless of cost? -I don't know if I am correct or not but I think GTX300 series are going to take awhile longer to release and I plan to build within abit after Win7 release. So question being GTX300 series wait no what? - Can I still Crossfire the card 1-2 years down the road when it starts to fall a bit behind with games with a modern card? -EDIT- Just read a large article on Video card memory, and so it appears that larger amounts of memory has no affect on games for the most part as long as the card has enough memory to respectably run the game (So more or less 1GB) and the rest is up to the card, but What concerns me though is will I need the xtra memory due to running 2 monitors or just for future games. Hey, I'm the video card review guy. Here is my opinion on your questions:
-Is 5000 Series going to be worth it regardless of cost? Yes and no -- keep in mind when any new card comes out, there is sort of a 'new card premium'. I would take advantage of the price drops that the HD 5870 launch last night brought. I'd buy something around the $200 mark instead of $400 personally. I.E, consider a HD 4870 OC or a 4890 -- you can always CrossFire it with a 5800 series later *****if your mobo supports CrossFire****** Basically a HD 4890 will run anything out right now fine, so you might to save money (same for a GTX 275) -I don't know if I am correct or not but I think GTX300 series are going to take awhile longer to release and I plan to build within abit after Win7 release. So question being GTX300 series wait no what? Nothing is for sure, but my guess is the GTX300 is still about 2-3 months away. - Can I still Crossfire the card 1-2 years down the road when it starts to fall a bit behind with games with a modern card? If you have a CrossFire compatible mobo, and a good power supply (600W + ) , then yes. Note: You can only SLI two video cards of the same kind, but CrossFireX is backwards compatible and you can mix and match. No I would not worry about it. Memory really makes a difference (beyond 512MB). It is only a deal if you are playing with crazy resolutions (above 1920x1200) . And you will not be playing any games with two monitors at once (I don't think..?) | |
