Not such a big surprise since they are getting their shit handed to them right now and they need to get rid of their 2xx stock to make room for their 3xx stock... but they still have tons of 9xxx stock out there. Glad im not a business major.
I cant wait to see their new cards performance though. On other gpu news the 6800 ati's are supposedly coming out next year in q3... at least that's what it is right now.

Haha, that was pretty much my reaction when I read it. It's nice to know but do we really need it so soon? Unless nvidia completely stomps ati's ass then I dont see the need for it, unless we get some ridiculously power hungry game like a third crysis on a new engine haha.
IDK could be either date seeing as how it's a supposedly new built from the ground up architecture. Could be early because they've been workin on it for a while or be completely late because of unseen issues or driver problems... probably the latter lol.

If this is true then its bad for competition. Ive never gone over to the green side because ive always been an ATi fanboy, but without Nvidia nagging them in the high end market, they have no reason to put prices down.
I was hoping I could get a 5850 for £150 someday ------------------- Want to be beaten by an ape online?

Apparently Nvidia has already debunked these rumors. No source though, sorry.

Even if it's true, NVIDIA has new GPUs on the way so ATI is only a "monopoly" until then

Wtf!?
This better not be true. I have my eye on a GTX295 when I next upgrade my PC. Either that or whatever comes out next. I don't trust ATI... -------------------

quote DGYou should The 5870 is the fastest single GPU card right now and a couple of them in CrossFire destroys the GTX295

That may well be true, but I want ONE card not TWO. (One unit, that is, as in one PCIe slot)
I could link up two GTX295s, and I bet those would outperform two 5870s. After all that would basically be 4 cards in two slots. Also, isn't there a problem where ATI cards can't be used for PhysX support? EDIT: Sorry, I was thinking of 4870s. I just did a comparison between the 5870 and the GTX295. The 5870 is better in nearly every single way. Still, the PhysX is still a problem... Would it be possible to use my current Nvidia 8800GTX as a PhysX card and get an ATI 5870 for the actual GPU? I don't know what happens if you try to use ATI and Nvidia cards together like that. -------------------

ATI and Nvidia don't work together, but there's some kind of development taking place for achieving that. Ask Player1 to know more.

This won't be the first time nVidia got slapped by ATI and it won't be the last thats fir sure. The way the economy is many folks are going for the cheapest price and that hurts nVidia more then anything, I mean why would you pay for a top of the line graphics card when you can get a graphics card that performs the same for $180 cheaper, it use to be the "name" you were paying for back in the day GEFORCE.
nVidia has to many cards in the 200 line any way, heck they probably made a 260 GS & GTX with a 10mhz clock different but slap a $100 price difference people will fall for it ROFL ------------------- ASRock N68-S AM2+/AM3 Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition Kingston DDRII PC5300 2048mb XFX Geforce 9800GT 512mb RAIDMAX AURORA 600W Cooler Master Elite 341

Ya I think the days of the $500+ video card are coming to an end for a little while. Cards around $200 are able to handle almost all games no problem, and there are not nearly enough PC exclusive games that push the PC hard enough to to actually take advantage of a $500+ video card.

The two 5870's in crossfire would probably kill the two gtx295's in sli.
A single 5870 has about the same power, give or take depending on the title, as a gtx295 and two cards will scale much better than four will. I want to say that we need more games to push the computer hardware but at the same time I dont want to spend money XD Also new info on the 6xxx series from ati, they are also making the move to MIMD as nvidia will do with the gt300 series. ------------------- Classic Gamer's Society Current Game - Lufia II Rise of the Sinistrals
