laptop monitor problems

ok i have an HP laptop and just recently when i turn on my computer, everything will start up fine except that my monitor stays black and will not seem like its even on. no matter how long i wait the problem still persists. but one thing is that sometimes or if i just keep on trying to get my monitor to turn on by restarting the whole computer the monitor will eventually turn on. this is getting to be very annoying:#.

re: laptop monitor problems

Have you tried plugging an external monitor to it? It might be that it's somehow set to use an external monitor.

re: laptop monitor problems

It might be a loose connection between the monitor ,and the board. How old is it? drop it at all?

re: laptop monitor problems

i dont know much about computers, (relative to this forum anyway) but i just purchased a "limited edition Verve"" HP pavillion dv 2000, ( i think thats the right name), and it also puts me in a blank screen for about 3 minutes after the "normal" start up thing, but i can see the mouse icon, and the display comes on eventually, maybe you just have to wait it out, it helps me when i dont turn it off, but hibernate instead. (sorry if thats obvious)

re: laptop monitor problems

On second thought, I have been seeing more than a few Vista laptops that have this same problem, all of them had a gig of ram with many startup programs running in the background. If this is a similar issue with you, disable whatever you can to free up memory. Vista is a memory whore.

re: laptop monitor problems

Interesting as it is, just today I sent my dv9000t back to hp to fix a similar problem. The laptop sounds like it starts up correctly and the screen turns on, however the screen is a dark grayish color with a vertical chunk of white space to right side. Laptop will display when using an external monitor.
I sent it in to HP in february to fix the same problem- they replaced the lcd, system board, and keyboard (no idea about the keyboard haha).

re: laptop monitor problems

This same thing happened to me a few days ago for the first time, then it happened again when I went to turn my computer on from the hibernation mode. I called HP and had to take a couple covers off the back; after unplugging the computer & taking the battery pack out. I had to take the cards out & then take the hard drive out, put it all back together and the computer came on.

I was then told that this is an issue that they are having with the model that I have.(dv2000) So now I have to send my laptop to them to have the MOTHERBOARD replaced! Wonderful huh?! by the way.....I was also told that if I wait, this will become more & more frequent to where my computer will not turn on at all.

Did you try to Google your problem I think I have heard about this problem before so there should be some info on it.
