quote Light DruidJust saw this. On an actual GD, I think they always serve a purpose in building a community in any forum. I think it would be a good move, personally. The second idea sounds more like something similar to the Writer's Lounge tbh, unless I'm misunderstanding you! ------------------- Ron says: I just drink to a point where everything makes me laugh Ron says: once something stops being funny, I drink more

In a big way, it is more fitting in Writer's Lounge. But being related to books it could also possibly work here. Simply tossing some ideas around to see what people are in the mood for.

We could always get a game going. I was thinking something along the lines of one person posting a passage from a book and then whoever can pick the book it's from goes next. Simple but should be a bit of fun. Plus it'll get us all remembering books we haven't read in a while.

I believe there was a game similar to that awhile (could have been like a year, my memory is sketchy). I think Deis may have made it, but possibly not. You could bump that or make a new one, whichever you prefer.
[LD]: Nevermind, I was thinking of the Anagram Game thread. Still a fun game though. Anyone have any other game suggestions, or regular suggestions/ideas? And what would everyone's thoughts be on a header/footer contest in the community events forum? I can see pros and cons to it. Thoughts? -------------------

I like the quote game idea, that sounds like fun. As for the header footer contest, I can't do graphics worth a damn so I'm indifferent hehe, but if it gets more traffic in then go for it.

I think the fact this forum is about books means it'll never be as active as Music or Movies, because a lot of teenagers can't be bothered reading, but maybe the best way to build a community is to just advertise the forum more. Maybe PM people who seem a bit older and more interested in reading if you run into them, use signatures more and just slowly get word out. I know that sounds really simple minded, but holding things within the forum will only work so much if people don't even visit here in the first place.

Signatures would be a good idea, especially "deceptive" ones like what mandos used. I know I fell for it.
Ones saying "secret porn forum" or "moderator forum" probably wouldn't be good ideas even though they would get clicked a time or two. ------------------- quote SlackerBooks&Lit Comics Transformers: The Movie Gundam Collectibles

So did I. I was just so curious.
And probably not on signatures like that. I don't want to have to clean up all of the complaints when they can't find what they're looking for. -------------------

A Header comp sounds like a good idea. The old header is kind of grainy in quality and first impressions do mean a lot.
As for the game I suggested I'll start that when I get home to my own computer and I'll set it all up properly. ------------------- ![]() † : Photography.B&L.Music

Random thought, but would you guys prefer a generalized book news thread, or to make new threads for each news story that may arise?

One thread will be much more convenient. Especially as lots of threads will either look disorganized or there won't be enough to talk about and threads will die too quickly.

Perhaps upcoming release dates should be listed in the introductory post?

In my mind I was seeing it more aimed at news stories and the like surrounding books and authors rather than a mix with new releases. We could merge the two ideas if you all would prefer it though.
