I think a merged thread is a good idea. Have one organized post at the start with major news and upcoming releases. Then people can post news throughout the thread with the most interesting and important news getting added to the first post.

Now you can get some feedback for your ideas here.
I discovered this forum a couple of days ago, after seeing the various signatures and quotes pop up around the forums. After visiting I favourited the forum because I have terrible trouble finding places again, and then this morning I got a pm encouraging me to come and post as I had been noticed as being a member. I thought that was a nice touch. ------------------- When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.

Can only take partial credit on that. Q22 thought up the idea, I just put it play. If you all want, you could all send him a thank you PM or 5 to let him know how cool he is!
P.S. Send the 5 he likes that many! Also, this is almost a blatant rip-off of TLA's game in Movies/Films, not quite because I don't have as sophisticated technology on hand, but what would you all say to a similar idea such as this. We could do it either way where members would have to guess what the title and author are, or we could play it as more of a hangman esque game. Any thoughts? And someone better say what the example book is! This message was edited by Light Druid on Feb 22 2009. -------------------

I like the look of that game idea, I'm not sure if it would be better hangman style though.
And that pm was a really good idea, encouraged me to start posting and get involved a bit.

Love the idea, LD, it would really be a brain-stretcher! But one question: for reprinted books, would the original or the reprinted cover be posted? ------------------- quote Forrest Gump∞Books & Lit∞ ∞Donate to your favorite charity just by searching the Internet! - Goodsearch.com∞

I would say it could be either. That way it spreads out the chances as different people will have seen different covers. Also include international covers as those of us who live in places like Oz won't know a lot of them otherwise.

Yes, the covers can be from any year/type/country to make it more diverse and difficult.

Just noticed the PM I got from LD. I think its awesome that you guys are trying to build up the B&L community. When I first came here, there were about 1-2 posts made per week. Its already showing a lot of improvement.
BTW, another game idea- you could post a brief summary of the theme, plot of a book, and get members to guess which book it belongs to. -------------------

That could possibly work. Are you thinking the actual summary or a members personal summary of the book?
And for the Cover Guess game, would you guys like it to be more like Movies/Films where I or another members would put up several of them for you all to guess, or would you prefer it to change according to who guesses the answer correctly? -------------------

Using this as kind of an RFS, what would everyone think of a Predictions thread?
For instance if I'm reading a book or even an entire series, somewhere along the line I might say "Okay so this girl is either going to date him, or she's going to leave him for the new kid that's supposed to be coming." Post my predictions, then come back later to see if it's true. I dunno, I just thought of the idea while reading this book that was pretty predictable, and thought it might be interesting to track how many things I got right and how many things I got wrong, and we could see how good each other is at predicting things. -------------------

You could run it like a journal of your reading or something. It doesn't sound like an idea with much substance to it though is my only concern. The posts of any real value will be few and far between.
I'm all for getting the aforementioned Cover Guess game going though. ------------------- ![]() † : Photography.B&L.Music

I liked the sound of that book club. Discusing books with fellow readers would certainly bring me back to the Books & Literature forum more often (if that's possible).

If you do make a book club, I suggest you make the reading itself voluntary. I'd love to join a neo book club and discuss books with you guys, but if I feel like I don't want to read the book of the month, I shouldn't be forced to. I left the previous couple of book clubs I belonged to for this very reason, I didn't want to read some particular book because it was not to my taste- they told me to leave when I asked if I could skip the book.

For the Book Club, what would you all say to compiling a list of links to short stories that can be read online? That way, if during a period of time that people don't necessarily have time to read a full-fledged novel, we could do a smaller version club and choose from among the gathered links.
Also for the cover guess game, would anyone else like to head this up? If not, that's fine and I'll start up the thread later today. But if anyone does want to head this up and be in charge of the whole thing, be my guest. And did we ever decide if we wanted it to be one person posting several covers like in Movies/Films, or one person posts a cover and the person who guesses it posts the next? -------------------
