re: How Fast Do You Read? |
quote SmurfYou're going to have to get me a copy of that 8th Harry Potter book. As for me, I read quite fast if I'm interested in a story. And if someone is reading out loud (for example, in school), I'll usually just go on ahead. ------------------- And did we tell you the name of the game, boy?

When I read a book that I'm really into then I can just read it for hours without putting it down. I think I managed to finish the last Harry Potter book in 2 days.

It can take me awhile sometimes to read a book as I generally don't tend to find all that much time to read... and I haven't really found all that much interesting to pique my interest lately...

I read fairly fast.
But I read more slowly than fast probably. I want to absorb the words and carefully follow the story at the same time so I can know what is going on and get used to studying the language of the books. Something my English teacher nags m about. But I guess because I read a lot, slow reading makes up for it. Some books I read really fast like Harry Potter and The Catcher in the Rye because they have a "fast" feel to them (yep really weird lol) and others like The Changeling or 1984 I absorb more carefully. ------------------- 10/11/09 MW2. | |

I read fast when I'm interested in the book I'm reading. For example, I read the last Harry Potter book the day it came out, but other (shorter) books take me weeks.

Depends on the kind of book I am reading. If it's a book I'm interested in, such as Harry Potter and the Eragon series, then I'll blow by it in a couple of days. Books I'm forced to read I read much slower because I generally don't like them much.

It really all depends. When I am reading a compelling book, I just can't stop reading, and end up getting through the book in a few days at about a page a minute. However, when the book does not grab my attention, I rarely can even finish the book.

If it's physics and astronomy books and the likes, it'll take me good 5 minutes tops per page, because reading scientific writings aren't that easy since the information/s you read basically takes time to sink in. Otherwise reading it for the sake of "reading it" will be an awful waste of time.
But the literary classics like The Hobbit and LotR trilogy books I tend to read through in a quick pace like 1 minute/page and thoroughly enjoy them at the same time. The Silmarillion is an exception though, I haven't picked up the book yet and I am currently checking out the dedicated fansites and I've got a fair warning regarding the book. Because they say it is really a daunting read if you have trouble reading archaic storytelling, but I'll pick it up nonetheless since I am a fan of the series. For the Silmarillion it all depends on how you go into it. If you go in expecting the same thing as the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings, you may be put off. A lot of it is very descriptive background that one might call unnessecary at times, but when looking at it as a whole, it all fits together in a perfect way. I absolutely loved it and didn't have as much trouble reading through it as others I have heard of "slogging through the mud".

Depends on the book and location. If I'm at school and reading Artemis Fowl, I can read a page in about 30-50 seconds, but if I read it at home, I end up getting distracted and read a page in 2 minutes.
