re: Boring books. D:

I liked North and South . That might be because I watched the series first though which was on a few years ago, then I read the book straight afterwards.

Any way, I found Pride and Prejudice really hard work to read. What with all the ballroom dances, people falling off horses, more dances, snobbery, people walking around in posh dresses, and more dances. I finished the book any way just so I could say that I read it. Might as well achieve something for going through all that boredom eh? don't give up! xD

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. I am struggling to decide whether I hated reading it or Thoreau's Walden more. It wasn't even the fact that it was for school since it was an independent reading assignment until a test at the end; the story itself bored me to near death.

Lord of the Rings.

I struggled through The Fellowship and about half of The Two Towers before giving up in fear of my creaking brain.
I found it very dry, pages and pages of nothing but description was hard going for me.

The movies were good though. Arguably adaption distillation and, even more better, no Tom Bombadil!

Well, I've fallen asleep reading the Silmarillion. ^^;

Anyway, most boring I've ever read?

*thinks* I can't think of any at the moment, actually. >o>;; It doesn't help that I haven't been reading much other than school textbooks (oh physiology ;-; ...)

Pride and Prejudice, man I hate Jane Austen so much. I also found They're Eyes Were Watching God and a River Runs Through it to be boring.

I typically just don't read books that don't interest me, and I haven't gotten to the point in school where they make you read dull old classics, so that's good. My dad made me read Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson, and I probably got halfway through before giving up. Too many classics are dull.

This is one of your odd jokes, right? Please?

Moby Dick made me cry inside, I had no interest whatsoever for it.

Silmarillion is more or less a text book, so you may live after the revolution.

That is one of my favourite books!

You guys have shite tastes. I might as well read every book mentioned in this thread now since I will probably end up liking them .

re: Boring books. D:

Haha, I love Jane Austen, actually. I have read that Charlotte Bronte doesn't like Austen, though it may have to do with the social class issue (Austen was higher class than the Brontes). I may have to look into the books by the Brontes ... :] I dabble into classics every now and then, though I haven't read many .... I still need to read four other books by Austen (I've only read P&P and Emma XD)

re: Boring books. D:

Jane Eyre and Pride & Prejudice. Not because they were bad or shit books, but because of the way we were studying them was insanely boring. WOMEN WOMEN WOMEN RIGHTS WOMEN RIGHTS WOOHOO! The course was called "Literature and Gender" and when someone asked the lecturer if we'd be studying any MALE writers for the GENDER course she laughed and said "No way".

As a result I was instantly prejudiced (lolirony) against everything we did in that course. I tried reading Jane Eyre and Pride & Prejudice but hated them, got summaries instead. Which is like... blasphemy for an English student. Or something.

Basically, any Jane Austen. Sure, I've found a couple of them a bit interesting, but I'm afraid ball rooms and snobby girls choosing suitors just isn't for me.
