StarCraft: Ghost: Nova |
|
Three (but I haven't really read it this morning much yet) days ago (Tuesday, October 26, 2009) I started reading what is now my favorite book of all time, StarCraft: Ghost: Nova. In two days I have read (exactly) 200 pages (not including the prologue), that's how awesome it is. The novel is set in my second favorite game universe of all time (my favorite is Sole Survivor, which is still being created by the wonderful people over at Reenactor Entertainment), StarCraft. Well, in just two days I read Now, I must warn you, this may contain some spoilers, so read at your own will.
The story starts out in the Terra Skyscraper where November Annabella "Nova" Terra, a member of one of the Old Families, which are the ruling class elites and have a great deal of influence over the Council of the Confederacy of Man. She is celebrating her fifteenth birthday when her father recieves word that terrorists have destroyed one of his manufacturing plants (as well as news that Mar Sara has been destroyed). He then panics and wants to send his daughter away to a resort where several other people are sending their kids to be safe. While on the transport to leave Tarsonis she gets the feeling that something is out of place (which is actually her telepathic powers), and so she leaves the transport before it takes off and returns home. As she returns home she finds out that one of her family's security guards was shot, she then feels both her parents die (using telepathy). Then she makes it up to where her family is, and she was to watch as her mother's jiggalo, Edward Peters, has her brother shot in the head at point blank range. He then tries to kill her, but she unconsiously kills everyone within like a mile radius using her mind (including Edward). She then runs to the Tarsonis Gutter (which is where all the crime and poverty is), where she attempts to kill a crime lord, but is instead taken hostage by him and made into a slave.
This is by far the most interesting novel I have ever read. I look forward to future StarCraft: Ghost novels (as well as finishing reading this one), as well as StarCraft: Ghost, which I will be getting for the Nintendo GameCube, once it gets unpostponed. The story can get a little confusing at times, especially when you have two (or more) people thinking at once and Keith R.A. DeCandido (the author) seperates their thoughts using parenthesis, here is an excerpt from the book of one of the parts in which the author does this:
quote
As you can see, that can be very confusing (everything in italics is someone's thoughts, and everyone in parenthesized italics is another person's thoughts). Another thing that makes it hard to understand is that the crime lords and their slaves don't use hardly any grammar, and don't spell things right on purpose, and use made up words. Overall though, it is a really good book, I highly recommend it. | |

Interesting, I read some of the other starcraft books but I didn't know they decided to turn Starcraft Ghost into novels. I remember when it was going to be a stealth action game for ps2, xbox, and gamecube and I was pissed when it got cancelled. I might have to pick this one up.

I've read some of the SC books, so far Nova and the dark templar saga, and story wise I liked the Templar Saga more, although they have three books compared to the one. Nova was refreshing once you got the lingo down and at the very end it I felt like I wanted more.
