How do C) Attack skills work?

While I have the utmost respect for the details in Captain K's FAQ (cf. http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/psp/file/931113/12648 ), the information here doesn't answer my question/problems with a couple C) Attack skills that I simply cannot get to work.

Instructions both in the FAQ and in game tell me for example to use "Charge Warriors" I must "tap the attack button quickly to inflict extra damage."

But when I tap the attack button quickly, that just makes the character attack as many times as I tap the button. Even if I hit the button several times before the character's first attack lands, he still uses the normal attack and not the attack skill.

I have the same problem trying to use "slanting rain" for archers. It is my understanding that I "press the directional button left immediately after pressing attack to launch a single strong hit at all enemies."

But when I attack with an archer and immediately press the directional button left afterwards, the archer simply executes the normal attack and not the attack skill "slanting rain."

Would someone please explain to me what I'm doing wrong and why I can't get attack skills to work? I've definitely spent the CP to learn them with the characters I'm trying to use the abilities but I haven't gotten any ability to work with any character in spite of many attempts.

Hmm this might sound obvious, but it happens to me every once in a while, you HAVE equipped them, right?
If you have, let me tell you that charge won't always work, but you'll notice that when it does there will be a yellow flash, like this:




I warranty it works, so unless your game is bugged (or you DID forgot to equip the skillXD), you'll just have to max it's level and keep hammering the button until it decides to activate. As for slating rain (Great skill, btw) you'll have better chances of seeing it work if you hold the button before you press attack until after it happens, at least that's how i did it. Well that's it, if oyu need anything else or i wasn't clear enough, don't hesitate to ask again

No, I resorted to Captain K's FAQ in an attempt to answer the question I had regarding this problem. I don't read walkthroughs unless I'm hopelessly stuck

thanks for stating the obvious somehow it wasn't obvious for me!

since then the problem I have with charge is I inadvertently use it when all I really want to do is attack a second or third time with a character that has more than one attack per round with a given weapon (if that makes sense).

So I may order Lenneth with dragon slayer to attack a target, then have other members of the party launch their attacks, but once I have Lenneth issue her second and third attack (she gets 3 with dragon slayer), I've done that so fast that she ends up using "charge" when I'm only trying to order her to strike a second and third time . . . I guess I'm just giving her the order to attack before her previous hit, so the game things I'm "tapping the button repeatedly" which is effectively the same as charge . . .

well I'm struggling with charge for this reason . . . I guess there's no way around it except to go with another skill
