Beginner's Photo Text [GIMP] |
|
This a very simple tutorial designed primarily for those new to graphic designing.
![]() -Open your desired image as a new project. Resize and edit as necessary. ![]() - Copy your current image (edit-copy visible). Open your text tool and select a font. A bulky font works best. Adjust the size and type out your desired text. Color is not important. ![]() -Create a new layer (layer-new layer) above the text layer. Alpha to select the text layer. It is possible to do this by opening your layers dialog (windows-dockable dialogs-layers) and right clicking the chosen layer. It is also possible to cycle through existing layers using this menu. Next, select the layer containing the copy of the background. Invert the current selection (select invert) and cut (edit-cut) it. Delete all layers except for the current one. ![]() -Next run a bump map filter (filters-map-bump map) on the image. Adjust the settings accordingly. This will add slight depth to the image. ![]() -Create a new layer and place it underneath the text layer. Alpha to select the text layer. Grow (select-grow) the selection by two pixels. Fill this selection with a color that matches those of your current image. ![]() -Add a drop shadow (filters-light and shadow-drop shadow). Adjust the offset if necessary. Feedback and results are appreciated. ------------------- | |
