Using Lego Stunt Rally in Windows ME |
|
Help. It won't work in Windows ME. It loads and goes through the introduction. You can pick your track and your driver but when you go to the race it just quits.

I have been trying since Christmas to find a solution with no luck! I believe it is related to the DirectX drivers, but every attempt to contact Lego has met with silence! If you have any joy let me know (and I wiil do likewise)

Several things to try when you get these types of silent crashes:
1. Try different DirectX versions (ie go between DIrectX7.0, 7.0a, and 8.0) 2. Upgrade all your drivers, esp. sound card and vid card 3. Try pulling out a sound card and seeing if the game will run, often sound cards can screw it up. 4. If you have an extra vid card do a swap and see if that does anything. There might even be a patch that might address the issue, usually emailing tech support is like the slowest way to do it.

I had the same problem and I installed new drivers for
everything, upgraded directX - nothing worked. However I found a not on the Lego support page: http://www.lego.com/software/stuntrally/default.asp It describes a fix for this problem is to install a HP 550 Printer driver (even though its not a valid printer for my setup) and set it as the default printer. This is because the game will search for a HP driver and crash if not found! Wow what do you know - it worked! Some developer needs to be slapped for this problem!

I'm a technical support representative for LEGO Media. When it comes to any of our software quitting out to the desktop, it is always because of 1 of 2 things.
1. Your video card does not meet the requirements of the game (more commonly), or 2. You need the latest drivers for your sound and video devices. However, with LEGO Stunt Rally, there is another issue where when it starts a race, there is a DirectX conflict on some machines that relies on an HP printer driver. Be assured that this is a DirectX issue and not an issue with Stunt Rally. This issue is (for the most part) fixed in DirectX 8.1. Stupid Microsoft...

Try installing the HP500 drivers and set this to be your default printer before running. daft as it seems this seems to work for my Kids. Not sure if they still need to do this with 8.1

Hi,
This may also help to get it running... I have just spent 2 hours trying to work out why this wasn't working with all of the latest drivers and using Directx9

Stunt Rally worked first time on a clean install of XP with its own DirectX 7. However if you log in with other than Administrator rights and try to run the program it says DirectX is an older version and fails to install it or run.

Installing the HP 500 deskjet printer (standard) worked for me on an XP pro system. Stupid coders :-)
