I imagined noticed that I get larvae significantly faster with hives than with hatcheries. Is this true? Or was it the effect of sleep deprivation that caused this perception?

They don't, as far as I know. Larvae always spawn at the same speed as Drones.

I too always got the impression the hives produced larvae faster.

I think it might be that a hive has more... "slots" for larvae than a hatchery. As in a hive can produce a total of more at once. Could have been imagining it, but I think so anyway. I think that leads to there being a higher probability at any given time of there being a larva spawned in a slot. So it looks like they spawn more often.

Build a hatchery and a hive side by side and you'll see that they produce larvae at the same rate.

But do they have the same maximum number?

Uh, yeah. All 3 forms of the Hatchery can only hold 3 Larvae.

Teching is one of the main points of the game...

I would be fine if they had less techs or hp in exchange for more or faster larvae.

Less tech? That makes no sense. Good luck playing lategame ZvT and ZvP without Defilers or Ultras.

You want more Larvae? The solution is simple: Make more hatcheries.

You must construct more hatcheries. Besides, you shouldn't have too much of a problem with unit producing, since Zerg HAS to have several expansions.

But HP and tech is the only upgrades hatcheries give.
