Still an awesome game.

Are there any other people out there that have a higher tech system and still play this?
Me personally, I've had my Xbox for a year now and I love it, but that doesn't stop me from coming back and going old school with Aidyn every once in a while. The truth is that I haven't seen a next gen. system game that plays like this. The closest that I've found is Star Wars: Knights of the old republic (KOTOR), But it's still not the Medieval stuff that Rpgers love. What sets this game apart is the combat. Yes the story is good but then again there are lots of games out with great stories anymore.
What exactly I like about the Combat:
1. Turn based, but strategic since you move around the battlefield.
2. The fact that so many different factors contribute to attacks; distance, direction, weather, time of day, (no other game I've played has this.)
3. Magical OOMPH! lots of games have magical abilities but often they aren't worth the effort it takes to use them. In Games like Morrowind magic doesn't do half of what weapons can do, while in KOTOR, though you can use the "force" the powers are over costed and are easily resisted.
4. Party. Other games have this but the costumization that is found in Aidyn outranks any I've ever seen. Using KOTOR as an example again, all your cahracter have a preselected class that affects how they lvl. up. You lose a lot of the freedom that you can get in Aidyn.

WHat I'm saying is that those of you that love Rpgs but don't have the newer systems, you can't get any better than what you've already got when it comes to RPGS.

re: Still an awesome game.

I completely agree! I purchased morrowind because of the free moving adventure but only because i had experienced that in Aidyn. But the thing was it was too different, still fun, but too different from the original Aidyn. I have played and beaten the KOTOR's, the Tales, Skies of Arcadia, Morrowind, and pretty much all others and they still dont compare to the feeling i get when playing in the land of Aidyn. For me, morrowind was too free and lost a lot of depth and KOTOR was too structured and somehow didnt even draw me into it, but Aidyn Chronicles had the perfect balance of exploration and storyline elements to it.

I think that its amazing that a game with such depth and story could not turn out to be a huge seller. I think its way better than any $50 RPG you can find out there right now and it will only take $3 or so out of your pocket on ebay to get.

One more thing before i end my rant, i think its kinda rude that people say morrowind was genre defining and a huge innovative experience when Aidyn Chronicles pioneered in the field way before. I think they should port Aidyn Chronicles to the Nintendo DS and give it another chance to shine brightly. Live on Alaron.

re: Still an awesome game.

I don't think that it's rude, since they define different things.
Aidyn was, as you say, a near perfect blend of openness and story, but I don't deny Morrowind being one of my favorites either. I like the open endings and unlimited replayability, but, as you also said, it lacks for story. In fact most times I create my own back story separate from the game itself to augment the experience.

Also, another reason not to think it rude is the sad fact that few people know of Aidyn. I myself, looked at the box at my local Fam Video for months and for months put it back on the shelf because it wasn't sold well. I didn't pick it up until one day I was REALLY bored and all the "good" games were gone. 3-4 hrs of play later (when I finally peeled myself off the chair) I knew I'd found a hidden classic. A former poster here gave the sad truth: It was a late cycle release for the 64, released, I think after the new systems were out, or at least announced. I does utilize the full capabilities of the system (a thing rarely done) and has legendary gameplay, but as I said it was ill sold. To get a Late cycle game to sell, you need to get people's attention. you need to convince them that the game is worth their time even though it has been out dated. This was not done. The box, is mediocre at best, displaying graphics in the pictures that are considerably worse than the game actually has and the cover and "Benefits" listed are factory grade for RPGs.

Another problem is that I think that H20 has since ceased to exsist and were never very well known to begin with, a lot of times a publisher's name sells a game better than anything.

If more people were aware of how good this game is, and they told the producers, then we may have a chance to see a sequel or at least a similar copy cat, as it is however, I fear it is destined to become another instance of gaming art that was born too late.
