RAW Guest Hosts: WWE Fails Again (Spoilers) |
|
No idea if this can be made outside of the RAW/Smackdown thread so here I go anyway.
What is with these guest hosts? When I first heard the idea, it seemed awesome. For the first time in like 5 years, I was interested in wrestling again, and actually wanted to watch it (Not just, "oh, RAW is on, think I'll watch it for a bit" but like "oh shit it's Monday I need to go home and watch RAW"). But no, WWE writing has let me down again. For one, it seems like all it is, is nothing more than a platform for B-listers to peddle their crap. Anyone see Shaq trying to plug his shitty lime sports drink? Seth Green plugging Robot Chicken? ZZ Top plugging.... well *bleep* who listened to their prerecorded fake strumming crap anyway? But that's not the worst of it, the worst is the match line-up. So these huge WWE "fans" finally get a chance to host the biggest show in the industry, and these are the matches they give us? A "Seth Green vs Legacy" match? A Shaq "Special Enforcer" match? If I wanted to see a hack wrestle I'd ask them to bring back The Boogeyman. And really, when you get a chance to manage RAW, would any of you pick these matches? *bleep* no. I'd throw down a "Orton vs. Jericho Ladder Match for the WWE Title" or a 3 tag-team TLC match. You know, stuff I actually want to see. These guys are huge fans and we're supposed to believe that all they want to see week in and week out is a Legacy vs. HHH/Cena match? Or every week they want a 6 Diva tag match? How about a 6 diva flaming chair battle royale?!?! *bleep*ing right little doggy. Seriously, stop failing WWE. This idea could have been awesome but now it's just turned RAW into a two-hour advertisement. Discuss. ------------------- ![]()

This has been pissing me off about the guest host concept too. I thought their bookings would be a lot more fanatical and unpredictable, but all they've done so far is fill the exact same GM match making role as you would expect from any stale GM. All they've managed to do is put a focus on the host so much that it takes a significant chunk away from the wrestling. And they think that they're actually helping the show by doing this? None of the *bleep*ing guest hosts are even still relevant.
Come to think of it, I've already forgotten what the finish was for Raw and I just watched it on DVR a couple weeks ago. Remember some crappy DQ finish, and nothing else.

At first it was interesting, but then it just started to follow the same formula. It's no doubt Vince is desperate for more viewers and probably hopes this will make Raw's ratings go up. I personally think a heel GM (since there are already 2 face GM's) is enough to make Raw watchable than having these hosts show up every week, ruining the show, and taking up TV time by forming cheesy skits with Santino Marella instead of focusing more time into developing storyline feuds and what not.
Honestly, all the hosts have been mediocre so far (although ZZ Top were downright awful). Despite of the inevitable advertising for the upcoming movie "The Goods", I think there is still a chance it can top the last three hosts if they do something right and provide new things instead of just booking the same generic tag team matches over and over. I agree with P_L that they should indeed be more original and try to do new things instead of focusing on the same generic crap. If they want this to go well they should make hosts make big matches to keep the show more interesting and none of this tag team main event bs.

Well I figured it would be that from the beginning.
ZZ Top were meant to plug their tour with Aerosmith btw. I think it just sucks cause we're watching the same show each week. The Hornswoggle match.. Triple H against Legacy.. Orton getting screwed usually.. and so on. Something new.. we all knew they couldn't book title matches.. But what about now? ------------------- ![]() quoteI'll miss you Momma

quote TurMoiL911Seriously, watch out for The Goods next week. • Hornswoggle/Chavo matches are pretty stupid. We all know what's going to happen: Chavo embarrasses himself, Tadpole Splash. • Santino *bleep*ing around with the guest host gets kind of annoying after a while too. So far the only interesting guest host was Batista for the guantlet match. Debaise making the match between Orton and his son was good too. ------------------- Tomorrow there will be no shortage of volunteers. No shortage of patriots. Well yeah, it's not so much the guest hosts which annoy me rather than the increasingly repetitive booking. I mean god damn, even back in 05/06 when Cena held the title for eons, even he wasn't shoved into every single main-event. The constant Orton/HHH/Cena/Legacy main-event matchup crap is getting pretty damn appalling, and it's a shame we have to rely on one man who's currently away on a break to come shake things up.

Honestly, I thought Shaq was pretty good. Tons better than ZZ Top anyway.
I know people were hoping the guest hosts would bring unique booking and all that, but I just always thought of it as having a revolving face GM. It's essentially the same thing, except the GM happens to be someone different each time. I remember reading on Wrestlezone that they would have wrestling legends as guest hosts to make PPV matches and stuff, and then celebrity hosts the rest of the weeks. That sounded good to me, but since Shaq did the #1 contender thing last night, it seems they won't be going this way. It's a shame, really. The problem is that there aren't enough stars willing to be on WWE programming, as it's still not mainstream enough to be acceptable. Maybe as time goes on, bigger celebrities would be willing to do it. Or we can hope. ------------------- ![]()

I forgot about DiBiase and Batista being hosts as well. I think, both were much better than the celebrities, no doubt.
I know this is a marketing scheme, but they need to improve the booking. Make new matches instead of feeding us the same shit over and over. I wouldn't really mind having hosts as long as they were interesting and made good matches. While I do prefer having a heel GM, this can still be some good if the booking is done right.

At this point it's just like "Hey come watch Raw, we got Shaq! And...some wrestling...Hear about Shaq's new TV show!"
I think the Raw writing staff is spending more time with writing the celebrity guest host's promos every week than the actual wrestling. -------------------

You'd think they would try to The Rock, Austin etc to host a show, would that not pull in viewers?
At the moment we just see people plugging thier stuff, I did like Seth's promo's however, but he should have stayed out the ring dammit! -------------------

He said "try to", not whether or not it'd work. I also think it's partly a case of their selection. Shaq was a decent choice, unlike ZZ Top which didn't do crap ratings wise. Seth Green was decent too.
I didn't mind Seth Green getting into the ring, but rather how it was just more generic Legacy vs. Trips/Cen banter, with some sort of.. cherry added on top. ------------------- ![]() personal thought of the day: life. is good. bob marley said it, and he's always god damn right about everything.

Austin is done with the WWE basically as well..

I'm really hoping for a Harrison Ford guest host. That'd make my life. Him, or Michael J. Fox. At least Fox would be able to plug his Parkinsons Society things.
