re: Wrestling Memorial Thread |

I just read this in Foley Is Good, written by Mick Foley, sub-titled and the real world is faker than wrestling in chapter 13, page 166 to 176 -
quote I will always miss Owen Hart, I remember when he was using his Blue Blazer gimmick, (sort of like a super hero), Here, mick Foley recalls what happened in Kansas City, on May 29th at the Over the edge PPV. "When I looked at the screen, the camera was focused on a shot of the crowd for an extended amount of time, I guessed that they were having technical problems, and resumed writing. Minutes later I looked at the screen again, and the crowd was still on camera. As I wondered what was wrong, wrestling great Pat Patterson walked in. He was almost nonchalant as he asked, Did you see what happened? I replied that I had no idea. Owen fell off the cat-walk and into the ring he said, but still seemed somewhat calm. I had no idea what to think, but hoped that Pat, who liked to joke with the boys, was making a bad joke here. Pat, are you ribbing? I asked. Suddenly Pat burst into tears. He's been lying in the ring for 10 minutes. They don't know if he's alive or dead. My whole body felt cold as I ran out of the room while pat sobbed uncontrollably. I raced down the hall and crossed myself as I prayed for Owen. The backstage area was a collection of wrestlers either standing in stunned silence on crying openly. As I reached the entrance way, the gurney carrying Owen was wheeled to the waiting ambulance. An EMT stood atop the moving gurney and performed CPR as we all hoped against hope that Owen was still alive. Francois Petit came in through the curtain and I rushed to meet him. He's gone. Francois sadly said. He's all gone." R.I.P Owen Hart. ------------------- Gone

I never saw Owen Hart wrestle before but after reading this thread I felt teary eyed and I can't stand not having seen this man wrestle. I almost feel tempted to buy any DVD of a match of his just so I could have a part of him here always.
On another note, if I was a wrestler and I knew that steroids end up in latter year heart attacks before the age of 50, I would just go 'all-natural' my entire career. I'd rather be a 190 pound Paul London than a steroid inhaling monster. Also, I cannot believe Paul Wight doesn't expect to live past 40. He's in such great physical condition from what I can see. I know he has Giants disease but he is in better physical shape than Andre was when he passed away. Plus Andre injested gallons of alcohol a day like someone said. But it is truly sad to know that Big show doesnt even have the confidence to say he'll make it to 50 in this modern era of people living up to 78 years old. I'm also confused at why there are so many suicides within the Von Erich family. And how is Paul Bearer doing, is he still alive or is he sick? ------------------- Jail? The last time we saw Paul Bearer was when Undertaker buried him alive in concrete. Can't remember what PPV it was, but it was a while ago now...

He's probably relaxing and taking it easy. He's been in the wrestling buisness for a long time. Also you really should watch Owen Hart matches. He was one of the best there has ever been. He could have been a fututer champion. I miss him so much. I started to read his book (By Martha) but I stopped because it was too sad.

quote Zero Tolerance Yeah, Great American Bash 2004. Well I heard he visited SD and Raw tapings recently, but I could be wrong. I liked his character, it was cool. As for Owen Hart, I knew some stuff about him and I got to tell you... it hurts. I saw some of his matches, it was awesome. Wish he was still alive today, who knows what he could've become had he been still breathing today... ------------------- ![]() ![]()

A big reason for Bearer's recent absence was serious health issues caused by his weight...I did not realize he was so heavy to the point of being seriously overweight, he sure didn't look like it. Most of his current WWE work is creative, backstage, and related to the new Legends projects. He may still do the occasional Indy appearance as well.

Just thought I'd mention that today is the anniversary of the passing of "Flyin'" Brian Pillman. His best days were in the WCW days but he gained notoriety for his bizarre feud with Steve Austin in his last WWF days.

Yeah, I remember he died on the eve of a WWE: In Your House and they stuck Mankind in his place for the match. I was always a Pillman fan and was quite upset to find out he had passed on.

I have a question, how did Pillman die, I forgot. Wasn't it a massive heart attack? I too was sad when he died.
