re: Forum Header/Footer Thread |

The background is there so each picture is standardised and uniform, rather than just having random floating heads at the bottom. I was going to originally have circles instead of squares so there would be less background because the important part is who is in each one, not what's behind them, but squares were much easier and I'm lazy. Had there been no shape there at all with a border, it would have just looked clunky and weird. Now, there is a set place for each picture to go in.
The plan was never for people to see the headers and go "Ooo, look at that lovely backgroud, shame about the face that's in the way", it was for people to go "Oohhh, it has those five guys? This must be for ???". The size I aim for is more or less top of the head to the chin. I honestly cannot see how that can be "overwhelming" since it is still a very small picture. ------------------- ![]()

*sigh*
Let me make myself clearer. No, obviously the background isn't meant to be the focal and I never even implied that, yet alone said it. But the background should be visible. The background isn't there to catch X persons attention, but it should be there, in the back, not hidden by the face. While the faces are still small, they still take up more than the majority of each respective box. It looks far far better if its not overcrowding. Floating heads are not a nice look, resize it so you can see a bit of the neck, that way you can see it clearly and it doesn't look so tacky (which it taking up 90% of the square makes it look). Obviously, I'm not getting through so let me use an example. You don't want your focal to completely overwhelm everything else. I'm not saying make all the picturs tiny so you can see the pretty backgrounds, just small enough so you can see something other than their fat heads. Follow? Which of the two examples below look better? Exactly. ![]() ![]()

Your using a picture with a background so everything looks natural and obviously better. PSD's slammed onto a random background like that look tacky. They don't look natural at all. Hence why it's better to show as little of the background as possible.
These headers are here to show people the faces of each promotion, not little naturalistic portraits of them. I appreciate your example, I just don't think it's relevant, if you want to spend time blending and working the PSD's to look natural by all means, otherwise Slim and I's method is more efficient for this mass-banner cause. It's also easier to get the faces to match up and look consistent if they are indeed just faces. Just a matter of personal preference, I suppose. -------------------

Not a fan of the font, but the idea I like with rotating images for each brand or lolz moment. Code?

It's something I believe a Super has to put in, but then you can just add new banners to the rotation. I'm not entirely sure because it never really got off the ground in IRP, since no one bothered making any banners to go into it.
They have it in a few forums, I think, one being the Football forum. Maybe PM one of the mods there to find out how exactly it gets done? ------------------- ![]()

I did have a look quickly for something. I know there used to be a feature on an image hosting site called imageox where you could host multiple url's, and with that it would change the pictures in the folder randomly. However, the site is completely down and looks like it isn't coming back soon. All the other sites with a similar feature, seem to be for 'dirty' pictures, god knows why tbh, but whatever.
I'd suggest PM'ing one of the football mods too.

I'll ask around, see what becomes of it. Lately I can't stand looking at the same banner for more than two weeks, especially when I'd like to host something that just happened within the last week of programming. Rotating images would help out so someone who spent time working on one could at least have it up there for a while without it eventually getting switched out just a few days later. Makes the hard work discouraging to submit another one.

Great work guys. I really like this concept.
And I think not only should we have the portrait headers, but have some of the funny headers in the rotation as well. Better luck next time loser is always funny. And through Eve in there as well. But then it might look bad having a bunch of them similar in style then random headers thrown in. Meh. ------------------- ![]()

Not to sure if this idea is blown out the window but as this got a little slower I was thinking why don't we sort of have what the football forum have? people post up there favorite wrestling moments and a pic if needed and then somebody will re size it and put the Wrestling Forum on it.

Everyone should abandon the idea. The mf'in Do not Want pics Jaff posted are fukken gold. They are header worthy.

I just had a go at doing two basic version of what I thought we could have as the forum header. They would rotate like the other idea and would come up with difrent events in wrestling. Again this is just a basic idea.
