How do I pay off loans at the time they come due. I had more than enough ducats accumulated to pay the loan but could not figure out how. I thought this might be done automatically by the game but when I checked the loans were still in effect with escalating interest.

the manual for this game is absolutely useless

A little menu pops up the month the loan needs to be paid off and lets you decide to pay it off or not to. You might of turned off those pop up menus so it would be on the status line.
