Musician's Corner General Discussion XIV

In The Previous Installment:

-ImperialCereal was/is looking for help with amps

-Born2be had a query regarding rhythm guitar:
quote born2be
How the *bleep* do you guys hear the rhythm for guitar rhythm parts. I'm trying to do the rhythm part http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM3u-rlTUV4 that guy is doing by taking his strumming pattern but honestly I listen to it but I just can't imitate it.
-And Animalunleashed discussed with MR the finer points of Metallica's career

Carry on friends.

re: Musician's Corner General Discussion XIV

So the guy from the shop in London is being a spastic and isn't replying to my emails about the Schecter. He told me the guitar would be in by the end of August. I emailed him on the 4th of September and he still hasn't replied. I'm thinking of just axing the idea and getting the Spider IV head instead. Y/N?

Id say try call the store about it before you cancel anything.

re: Musician's Corner General Discussion XIV

Some of you may remember this build froma while ago. There haven't been any updates on this for a while, and they've been a long time coming. So a while ago (it was before christmas i believe, getting on for a year ago), a very nice person, who wished to remain anonymous sent me a musicman bongo preamp and knobs for free, and a big thankyou to that person . He doesn't these parts, but that's beside the point. Anyway i just ahd to get round to fitying it, as it required some *ahem*, modifications...

Anyway, on a spur of the moment kind of thing i decided to get cracking on it. I stripped the whole thing down yesterday (i had ripped the controls out some time ago and crudely made a big hole where the control plate had been right through the body.) I then got the router out today and neatened that hole up a bit, and set to drawing out a template for the hole for the rest of the electronical gubbins, batteries etc. I then routed out the hole. Not massive news but it's certainly a start.

Anyway, here are some photos, they're a bit shaky/crap qualty as i had to use my phone because i left my 'proper' camera at my mum's house due to the aforementioned spur-of-the-moment-ness:

The preamp and knobs:

The hole through the body after neatening up a bit, for those of you that are a bit eagle-eyed, i had a bit of an accident with a chisel... so if it didn't need a refin before (it did), it definitely will now:

About to cut out the router template:

Routing done, not the neatest routing ever but it was my first time, and i'm pretty pleased it's certainly workable:

Now i need to get the right router bit to cut out the little step for the cover, i have some PVA which should hopefully be enough for a front/back plate. I also need a new jack socket and possibly a few pickup screws depending if i want to run two pickups or one, not decided yet. Might go for two as i will need a new pickguard otherwise.
More updates soon.

Should be interesting to see it when it's finished. Document all steps! Afterall, it certainly could use its own thread.

Sand it down to the bare and see how the grain looks, as you were telling me before. Maybe you could do a Corvette-esque oil stain (but I'm biased).

re: Musician's Corner General Discussion XIV

I cracked a cymbal about a month ago and im still playing it. Its a 2 inch long crack about an inch in from the cymbals edge. Im thinking about just cutting the cymbal becomes smaller or getting some epoxy and using that to bond it. What do you think would be the best method and any tips welcome. And yes im getting a new cymbal to take its place. Donations welcome

re: Musician's Corner General Discussion XIV

I emailed him again about the Blackjack and he didn't reply. Gonna get the Line 6 head instead now.

Spider IV HD 150 = ordered Should have it in a couple of days. Also getting some driving lessons because of how much cheaper the head is compared to the guitar. HAPPY

re: Musician's Corner General Discussion XIV

Psh, there's a reason the Spider III was the top selling amp in America I just love how easy it is to pick up a spider and make an awesome, professional sounding lead tone that sounds like it should be on stage. Man thinking about getting that Insane amp model back gets me hard.

How's the bass comin' along?
