Ovation Guitars |
|
Has anyone had any experience with these? They are acoustic guitars with really shallow backs. I was wondering if they are as loud as a normal acoustic. And also, can I plug an acoustic/electric into a Cube 30x amp?

ovations are pretty good, they're not that loud because they're more designed for comfort and to be played amplified. And yes, you could play one through a roland cube.

That's awesome man, I can't wait to get it. You don't need a capo or anything cause of the onboard electronics do you?

They provide an output signal for the guitar and most of them have an onboard EQ, same as your amp. That's it. Other than that and the bowl back, it's no different to a regular acoustic

You still need a capo if you want to change the key. There's no harmonizer or pitch shifter included in the on-board EQ, just treble, mid, bass and volume controls for the signal output. Nice guitars though, just kind of a pain to play sitting down in some instances, as the backs are beveled and can sometimes slide down your leg if you're not seated properly.

Ovations certainly have their own unique sound. When my dad plays mine, I can hear it very clearly from many rooms away more easily than with his wooden Alvarez. It really cuts through the ambient mix of my house.
There seems to be a bit of a sacrifice in low-end, though, and I imagine that may especially be the case for the slimmer bodied ones (mine is of the bowl-back variety). ------------------- B-E-A-D-G NeoIRC | Musician's Corner | Last.fm | |

The only Ovation I'd want is the Ultra GP, but I'll probably never find one
