Uwe Boll Must Die

So, what did the rest of you think of this dung heap of a movie?
See, when they were first showing previews for Alone In The Dark on television, I thought, "oh cool, I like the game, so a movie sounds exciting".
Then I saw it, and I was never more disgusted with a film in my entire life, I wanted to walk out of the theater.
Everything was terribly done, and I thought to myself, "what the hell?"
And that's when my friend Fox told me all about the wonder that is Uwe Boll, and how hated he is in the horror and video game community.
Well, count me in amongst the infuriated.
"People should be glad I'm picking up these games and turning them into movies when nobody else will", he says.
I say, don't TOUCH my games if you're going to turn them into CRAP.
Seriously. ><

re: Uwe Boll Must Die

No kidding, Serial.
Uwe Boll is basically the punching bag of the filmgoing community, particularly those with any ties to video games. He's adapted such series as House of the Dead and BloodRayne to the screen, and is constantly brought up any time movie adaptations are brought up, much the same way you bring up mounds of coal to scare children into behaving around Christmas time.

re: Uwe Boll Must Die

And the most appalling thing of all is that, somebody, somewhere, is still allowing him to make these movies, if you can even call them that. ><
Didn't his joke of a BloodRayne adaptation make like, one of the all-time record lows in box office sales EVER?

re: Uwe Boll Must Die

I read up on this in the movies forum, a thread I won't be assed to look for at this hour, but apparently, due to some loophole in the German financial system, he makes plenty of money off his film whether it flops or succeeds. So, frankly, he can't be stopped without violence.
I'm not a violent guy by nature, but if Uwe Boll was crossing the an intersection as I waited at a red light, I wouldn't be able to think of a better reason to spend the rest of my life in prison.

re: Uwe Boll Must Die

You sir (and I actually use that term in a genderless manner), are my hero.
Should that happen, I would be there, with a crowd of fellow Boll-haters, rallying for your release from prison, on the grounds that you have done society a great deed by ridding it of film poison.

Hmmm, lemme see if I can find my "review" on the Alone In The Dark movie, as posted in my Xanga blog, you might get a chuckle out of it... ah, here it is!

quote
Now, as promised, my rant on just how much the Alone In The Dark movie sucked ass...

Director Uwe Boll needs to be strung up by his testicles and dangled over a pit of rabid bulldogs. Not only has he utterly mutilated the spirit of the game series, but he's made a mockery of film-making.

Allow me to elaborate. First off, it sounded like he hired his cousin-in-law to dub the pre-movie synopsis. Which, incidentally, had a name flub. It's not the Abkani tribe, you hapless twits, it's the Abkanis tribe. If you had paid but two minutes worth of attention to the game at all, which you so obviously DIDN'T, you may have been able to pull off having the entire thing be only half a flop.

Whoever that one character you pulled out of your ass was, he was a sad excuse for a bad guy. Don't strain yourself too much on getting his name right either, because it was the *bleep*ing Mortons who were behind the whole scheme to open the gate to the World of Darkness, not some mincing museum proprieter.

Next, I've never been so bored watching anything in my entire life. The whole thing was nothing but long-ass scenes of people walking around, looking at things, making small talk, and shooting guns in poorly-lit areas. The pace was enough to kill everyone on a short bus within a thousand-mile radius. And what was with the love scene you stuck in the middle of it for absolutely no reason at all with that tired old soft-core porn tune slapped over top of it?

Speaking of which, the music supervisor needs to be eviscerated IMMEDIATELY. Could you have selected tunes that were any more base? Oh, and while you're at it, poison your editor, so that he/she can die as slow and as painful a death as I was experiencing trying to figure out how this piece of tripe was stapled together. Were you called out of the room a lot? Because it made about as much sense as braille on a drive-up ATM.

Now, as far as the cast goes, I feel extremely sorry for Christian Slater and Stephen Dorff. It was glaringly obvious that they regretted being in the film, because the two of them, and just about every other actor looked like they were straining themselves to the point of being depressed, trying to find enough energy to act. Tara Reid? Who the *bleep* decided to put her in the film? As my mother so delicately pointed out, she was merely there as window dressing, and didn't really fit in with the other characters. She has eternally soiled the character of Aline Cedrac with her generic "talents" and for that, I hope she gets a raging case of scabies.

Location, location, location. THERE WASN'T ANY! The game took place on Shadow Island, out in the middle of nowhere, where's it's actually plausible to have a native american tribal history attached to it. So where does Mister Boll take it? A city. A city that happens to have a gold mine tucked underneath it. A gold mine that is somehow connected to a church orphanage at the edge of town. Inside this mine? Two or three whole funhouse-style traps before you get to the most half-assed "secret laboratory" in the history of B-Moviedom.

Top your shit sandwich off with the same ending you've seen in any lousy horror movie. Don't even bother getting your credits straight. Based on the game series by Atari? ATARI?! Try Kokopeli, Darkworks, Bruno Bonnell and Sony, you useless *bleep*!!!

A friend of mine quoted me a little something you said once. "Gamers should be happy I'm picking up these movies when nobody else will." or something to that effect, eh? Don't *bleep*ing TOUCH my games if you're going to turn them into GARBAGE. Even if that movie hadn't been based on anything, it still would have sucked the biggest, roundest ones of all.

*Rant Mode Ended*

re: Uwe Boll Must Die

Beautiful. "Braille at a drive-up ATM" had me ROFLing!

The city, I should add, was Vancouver, BC, Canada. How brilliant of him to try to set up something like this there, of all places. Happens to be the home of Neo's HQ, as well, and a nice place, if you ever have the pleasure to visit. Just don't let the garbage that was this film taint your perception of it. Boll's done a great disservice to films, video games, Canada, and just about everything he's touched with that poisonous mind.

re: Uwe Boll Must Die

Oh, and let's not forget my heritage, he's tainted that too.
You said he's from Germany, right?
Well, my family is primarily German and English. ><

I've been to Toronto before, when I lived on the east coast, but I've never been to Vancouver.
If you'll pardon my ignorance, where is Vancouver located exactly?
Didn't know that's where Neo's HQ is either, sah-weet-ness.

No kidding. Been to Germany, loved it. The anal-retentive nature of the people totally complemented me.

Vancouver's far west-coast, in British Columbia. Toronto's always looked really cool. I absolutely love Canada, so I hope to drop in there some day.

Sah-weet-ness.
Oh yeah, I had also heard that in real life, Christian Slater and Stephen Dorff hate each other, which makes sense, because the only acting I saw in the movie that had any energy to it was when their characters are bitching at each other. XD
