How are you supposed to swing the Wiimote exactly at the same time as the bell marks? Half of the time it doesn't even recognize the motion!
Also, what do you get if you manage to do it?

The music minigames are basically like your typical DDR or Guitar Hero, so yes, you do need to motion as close to the symbols as possible. Try using shorter, quick flicks of the wiimote for better results.
The treasure depends on which musical chest you are opening, there are many throughout the game.
