is there a way to run without the attack item? i tried to find it on tutorials but i can only get beginner and hands on, why, it looks like there may be more?

OK, this is what you do. actually, all you hav to do is just constantly using the drift(1/b) or the gravity air glider thing(Shake the controler)

Sonic with the Chaos Emerald board can take the running shortcuts without the powerup, you just need to have 0 rings.
