Cage's great on the mic, he's awesome in the ring, and the Unprettier's a simple-but-effective finisher. A native of Tampa -- by way of Toronto -- he's managed to hoist the World Heavyweight belt two times in TNA. In the previews I've done before, I've mentioned how good TNA iMAPCT! looks, and that's a big part of what makes Christian feel like Christian. There's a ton of detail in his model, and the way he taunts the crowd and his opponent before the match with the wave of a hand is great. When it comes to moves, I'm happy with the selection Midway's given the Instant Classic -- although as with every brawler, I feel the pool is limited. From just a regular grapple, he's got a Death Valley Driver, hip toss, and more. Add some modifiers, and there's a Diamond Cutter as well as German Suplex. The moves are basic but deadly. I like to think of Christian as fast-paced matches with some technical holds. In my match with AJ Styles, there was a section that was just reversal after reversal -- AJ tried to Irish Whip; I countered with a whip of my own; and Styles counted, pulled me up and dropped Christian on his head. Although I was playing it, it felt as if it was pulled from a broadcast. Christian's powerful and fast -- just like he should be.

Maybe it's the tattoos, maybe it's the crazy goatee, maybe it's the ripped physique -- but something about this guy makes me want to run in the other direction. Of course, that's in real life when Tomko's beating in his opponent's skull. In TNA iMPACT!, I wasn't all that impressed with the big bald guy. Here's this hulking, tatted-up dude, and all his regular grapples are atomic drops and hip tosses. Even strong grapples just end with a collar bone-hurting move or toss. Meh. Not too impressive, Mr. Tomko. What is cool is his gorilla press finisher, but I don't think it's cool enough to save him from becoming one of the guys you never use.

Whether you're looking at the dude when he was part of Harlem Heat, rocking the ring as King Booker, or on his current collision course with Samoa Joe, Booker T's energy and mic skills make him someone you want to watch. In TNA iMPACT!, Booker seems pretty solid. He's got a sick belly-to-belly suplex and standard hip toss from his normal grapple. Beyond that, he's got a pretty standard German suplex, elbow to the head, and various stock moves. Still, the Book End looks stiff and devastating, while the celebration after the move is pure Booker. I can dig it, sucka.

I don't know, but at some point Scott Steiner turned a corner and went from normal looking professional wrestler to creepy dude wearing chain mail whose skin looks like that of an over-microwaved hot dog. But, I digress. The version of Steiner we find in iMPACT is easily the most powerful fighter I've profiled in the short time TNA-Listers has been going. He's got a full nelson belly-to-back suplex, a wicked powerbomb, and a devastating clothesline. His strikes are stiff punches and kicks. So, basically, he's just what you'd expect -- a frickin' powerhouse whose strength lies in bone-crushing moves. Whether you like him or not, Steiner's definitely fun to use. Interestingly, the Steiner Recliner is the first submission finisher I've seen in action. The way TNA deals with the final hold is that it gives the opponent three seconds to wiggle the joystick to fill the on-screen meter and break the hold. If they can't do it, they tap.

If you followed last year's coverage of that other wrestling game, you know I adore the ECW of old. Sabu, RVD, Dreamer, Sandman, Paulie, etc. It was awesome, and as that golden age came to a close, a young man called Rhino entered the federation. It was right around the time he piledrove Sandman's wife off the apron and through a table that the War Machine won me over. No stranger to the world of professional wrestling videogames, Rhino arrives in iMPACT packing the moves you'd probably expect. There's a German suplex, atomic drop, belly to belly suplex, and kick to the crotch. He's got the power moves we've talked about before, which -- coupled with the fact that there aren't character-specific taunts -- kind of makes him a bit forgettable. In the end, Rhino tosses his opponent to the ground, lines up, and delivers the gore. The animation doesn't really do the severity of the move justice, but the quality of the finisher is hit or miss even in real life.

If you're just getting on the TNA bandwagon, those comparisons are understandable, but if you've been watching for awhile, you've seen Abyss decimate the federation on his way to world title wins and the tag team championship. He's powerful and intimidating. For the most part, that doesn't seem to be reflected in TNA iMPACT!. With standard grapple moves such as the body slam and hip toss mixed with the traditional ground attack of elbow to the head or super-clothesline out of a strong grapple, Abyss comes off as a pretty generic, overweight man in leather pants. I never really felt like my time as the big guy was anything other than ordinary. On the plus side, the dude's chokeslam from a strong grapple is stiff and the Black Hole Slam is one of the better-looking finishers I've seen in the game.

You might remember Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin as trailblazers in the X Division, but now they're the Motor City Machine Guns. They rock. There's not much that can be said about this tag team -- you really need to see them in action. Known for fast-paced action and brutal moves, the Motor City Machine Guns are a force to be reckoned with in TNA. Although Shelley feels good in iMAPCT!, it's Sabin that steals the show. Both pack leaping DDTs from the regular grapple and Shelley has a "meh" arm-drag takedown, but Sabin has a bunch of high-flying, high-octane moves that are a ton of fun to pull off. There's a head-scissors takedown, hurricanrana, and a few other lightning-quick maneuvers that aren't unique to his character but really work well when put together like this. Both of the pair's finishers look tight, too. This is the first tag match IGN's featured on TNA-Listers, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the presentation. Although one of the guys was announced as half of the Motor City Machine Guns, the pair entered separately; when you make the tag, the illegal member moves right to the apron without giving any cheap shots in the ring; and it seems like there's never any rush to come help a partner when they're pinned in the middle of the ring.

A major component of professional wrestling is creating a character fans can connect with -- whether that connection is intense hatred or undying love doesn't really matter -- and Shark Boy had me from the first time I saw him pop up in the movie Beyond the Mat. Clad in his trademark shark mask, Shark Boy started tearing up the independents in 1995 before being signed to a short stint in WCW. He'd continue to make the rounds before ending up in TNA. In Orlando, Shark Boy gets beat up a lot but continues to be my boy. The folks behind iMPACT really seem to get Shark Boy. His entrance has him coming to the ring with his hand at his head, his costume looks great, his finisher is a deadly neckbreaker. For his four grapple moves he's got a Jumping DDT, Diamond Cutter, jawbreaker, and an eye rake (remember, there are tie-up moves only when you hit the grapple button while pressing toward or away from the enemy as well as when you hit the shoulder button and grapple while pressing toward or away from the enemy). We've seen these moves with other competitors, but they fit really well into the Shark Boy persona. Shark Boy's even got a hurricanrana as his grapple while running. Awesome.

Although Super-Eric doesn't appear to pop up in TNA iMPACT!, his alter ego Eric Young -- a former tag team champion and a guy who has been in some great feuds with the likes of Robert Roode and James Storm -- plays a huge part in the game. Young's in-game bio sheet lists him as a grappler packing the "Wheelbarrow Neckbreaker" as a finisher, but the truth is he makes up a hefty part of the Story Mode, which I'm also detailing on IGN today. See, when you create your wrestler and set out to make your name in the world of ring ropes and steel chairs, the TNA powers that be decide you need a tag team partner and give you the timid, awkward Young. He tells your character that you smell like bananas, he creeps out Christy, and he breaks up pins -- what's not to like? In terms of gameplay, Young's packing a number of moves you should be familiar with if you've been keeping up with TNA-Listers. There's an arm-drag takedown, DDT, jawbreaker, neckbreaker, and so on. They're solid moves and they set up his finisher nicely. What I like the most about Young in iMPACT! isn't really a move -- I think there are portions where the shy, paranoid guy from backstage shines through in front of the camera. When he enters, he gets spooked by his own pyro. When he pulls off the first part of his finisher, he glances around the ring for any signs of danger. These small touches make him feel like an individual in the game.

A week ago, Hernandez and Homicide were on top of the TNA tag team scene thanks to brutal moves such as the Gringo Killer and a win-at-all-costs attitude. However, Beer Money Inc. stepped up at Hard Justice and put an end to the tag team title reign of LAX. Sigh, at least the Latin American Xchange can continue to dominate here on TNA-Listers. In TNA iMPACT!, Hernandez feels like a powerhouse. He's got some of the same videogame moves we've seen before -- backbreaker, chokeslam, hip toss -- but he also makes use of a piledriver, Gorilla Press toss, and the vicious Border Toss. For the big, bulky tank top-wearer, the moves feel good. Meanwhile, Homicide is the speedy balance to Hernandez's power. Sadly, Homicide's moves are pretty much all things other TNA-Listers have pulled off -- Death Valley Driver, head scissors takedown, hurricanrana, etc. -- but the difference between each partner's style actually makes for an enjoyable switch when you tag the illegal player in. Plus, the Gringo Killer is sweet. It's a shame there are no double team moves -- at least none that I could find or that the instruction manual mentioned -- but the in-game balance of LAX still feels good.

A former X-Division Champion and tag team titleholder with AJ Styles, the Fallen Angel blazed a trail through TNA that left athlete after athlete crippled on the mat. Forever adorned with his trademark symbol, Daniels left TNA after discovering the briefcase he snatched during a Feast or Fired match contained a pink slip. Still, that Curry Man sure does look familiar This won't earn me any points with the people who think I'm too hard on this game, but in my opinion, Daniels is the most boring videogame wrestler we've had on TNA-Listers. While a lot of the characters in iMPACT! share moves, all of Daniels's grapples -- suplex, jawbreaker, German suplex, backbreaker, etc. -- are things we've seen before, and his finisher isn't anything to write home about. If you're a big fan of the guy, he's a solid character with a proven move set, but if you're just passing through, he's pretty forgettable.

Aside from being fun to watch in the ring, aside from having one of the greatest gimmicks in pro wrestling today, and aside from being a two-time X Division Champion -- Black Machismo is a 23-year-old gamer. Nice. Luckily, Lethal's character in TNA iMPACT! mimics our Savage clone nicely. The character -- clad in his neon, checkered pattern -- is fast and packs moves such as the suplex and the atomic drop. However, the best parts of Lethal pop up with moves on the run. The dude's got a leaping DDT, a head scissors that turns into a side-Russian leg sweep, and the traditional leaping cross body out of the ring. I would've preferred the elbow drop (which is in there if you can get your opponent to stay down long enough) as his finisher instead of the Dragon Suplex he currently has, but that's just splitting hairs. Black Machismo is cool. Oooooh yeeeeeah!

For more than 20 years, Sting's been tearing dudes apart on TV screens across the world much to the delight of professional wrestling fans. His career started with a man that would go on to become the Ultimate Warrior, he was the face of WCW, he's battled the biggest names, and he's been the TNA champ twice. His career is the stuff of legend -- a tale that's summed up with a black bat and some face paint.
Although TNA iMPACT! -- at least in my office build -- doesn't have character-specific taunts, the game does a pretty good job of capturing the flair that makes Sting stand out. He enters with his black trench coat and bat, his face paint looks intimidating as ever, and after nailing an opponent with the Scorpion Death Drop, Sting raises his hands to his mouth for the traditional battle cry. Aside from those standout moments, Sting's got a smattering of moves we've seen before such as a belly-to-belly suplex, neckbreaker, and a stiff looking punch. Still, playing as the Sting character feels good, looks good, and is fun.

If you haven't been able to keep up with the TNA roster, Sonjay Dutt has been stomping a path through the X Division that's not only fun to watch but also exciting as hell. A former student of Sabu, Sonjay was a key part of Kevin Nash's Paparazzi Championship Series, and the event led to his Buddhist gimmick and feud with Jay Lethal. After just one match as this guy, Sonjay has risen to the top of the fun wrestler list in TNA iMPACT! He's fast, his moves are acrobatic, and he really feels like an X Division brawler should. From the run, he's got a head scissors takedown, there's a hurricanrana from the grapple, he packs a leaping neckbreaker and more. To top it all off, the Sonjay Cutter is one of the best looking moves I've seen on TNA-Listers so far. Saying Dutt is someone you need to play as is pretty much a no-brainer.

I remember the first time I saw Brother Ray and Brother Devon kicking the crap out of people in Philadelphia while wearing tie-dye; I fell in love with them at first sight. If you caught a match with these two, you were treated to brutality, fan interaction, a cast of screwed-up characters, and a general sense of not knowing what the hell they were going to do. I watched the team capture ECW, WWE, and TNA gold, and I've never gotten tired of their gimmick. Anyone willing to powerbomb elderly women is OK in my book. Team 3D translates really well into TNA iMPACT!. As I stated on TNA-Listers before, making characters in this game feel like they should comes down to picking and choosing the right moves to fit the style you'd expect the characters to have. Brother Ray's got a body slam that looks like the stiff scoop he does in real life; when his opponent's down, there's a Ray elbow to the head that looks good; Devon's got a nice neckbreaker and the belly-to-belly suplex is a nice choice for him. On top of all that, the guys look great with Brother Ray in jeans and Devon taped up like he should be. Nice.

Over the years, Kevin Nash has been in plenty of videogames, but it's been a while now since we saw him running around a virtual ring. The star is returning to TV screens across the globe this September in TNA iMPACT! -- but this probably won't be the first time most have seen this storied showman. In a career spanning nearly 20 years, Nash has worn championship gold in numerous federations, bounced back from career-threatening injuries, and put on some of the most memorable matches and feuds fans have ever seen. Make no mistake about it, though; the Nash in iMPACT is the Nash you see on Spike TV and not a younger version of the man. He's clad in jeans and a polo, his moves are the standard selection of a suplex, body slam, and backbreaker, but there is some color tossed in. To begin with, Nash has a gorilla-press toss that accentuates his height, a powerbowb from the grapple to set up his finisher, and a big boot that looks devastating -- especially when the opponent is resting helpless in the corner. In the end, there's the jackknife powerbomb we all know and love. Welcome back to videogames, Kev.

Don't get me wrong, lots of people started and continue to keep the federation going, but as co-founder of the organization, Jarrett brought notoriety and talent when he helped start the federation. Before he was helping to establish TNA, Jarrett was all over the place in a career that has spanned more than 20 years. He took on the independents and won gold, debuted in the WWE as a country singer with a passion for clocking people with guitars, won the WCW championship a handful of times, and then co-founded TNA and led the roster as its champion on a few occasions. In the videogame, Jarrett's legacy doesn't seem to have been done justice. Sure, like most of the TNA roster, he looks great, but his moves are pretty average and seemingly obsessed with testicle shots. In the build of the game I'm playing, there's an atomic drop, low blow from the grapple, and the crotch stomp when the opponent's on the ground. Jarrett's also got a jawbreaker, suplex, knee to the elbow, and back body drop. Thankfully, the Stroke is here and looks awesome. Jarrett spins around, grabs the opponent's head, jaws a bit, slams him down, rolls into the pin, and then does his patented strut after the win. Nice.

After kicking ass in the NCAA, Angle won the gold in the 1996 Olympics and eventually ended up in the WWE where he went on an initial unbeaten tear before becoming one of the company's main eventers and racking up just about every title the place had to offer. In 2006, Angle headed to TNA. Here, Angle's held the world heavyweight championship, the tag team title, and the X Division Championship. He's even found work for his wife. In my mind, Angle plays exactly like he should in TNA iMPACT!. His most basic grapple -- just a tap of the grapple button -- is a belly-to-belly suplex, he's got a snap suplex, there's an eye rake in there, and his head and leg submission holds (no ankle lock) look natural. Angle feels like a solid technician who works specific body parts. He's animated well, the Olympic Slam looks great, and the celebration right after the finisher is spot on. Kurt Angle looks good.

A former TNA tag champ and TNA X Division champion, Joe's already ensured that he's going to have a legacy in TNA for a long time to come. Since 1999, Joe's been dropping opponent after opponent in the ring, and he's currently held the TNA title since April 13, 2008. That's nothing to sneeze at. In video game form, Samoa Joe works well. Aside from looking awesome thanks to iMPACT!'s graphics, Joe's move set makes sense. The champ packs a body slam, backbreaker, and a stiff-looking powerbomb. All these moves are steadily weakening the opponent's spine so by the time you get to dropping the Muscle Buster -- which also looks good -- you've pretty much got the match in hand. It's nice to know that your grapples are building toward something.

The Phenomenal AJ Styles has pretty much been the face of the death-defying X Division since his TNA debut in 2002. His career began in the late '90s and took him to promotions such as NWA and ROH before he landed in Orlando and racked up the TNA world heavyweight, tag, and X Division Championships. AJ's fast-paced matches and high flying moves have established him as one of the biggest names in TNA today. AJ feels good in TNA iMPACT!. If you've been reading TNA-Listers since its debut, you're going to be familiar with his moves -- a running hurricanrana, a head scissors into a side Russian, a leaping neckbreaker, a leap off the ropes into DDT, etc. It's sad that iMPACT! doesn't have the move library to give AJ his many signature moves, but the combination he has now feels fluid and makes AJ feel right. He's fast, deadly, and the Styles Clash looks painful.

It was a match with LAX that brought Beer Money together, but since the King of Wall Street Robert Roode and the Tennessee Cowboy James Storm got together on that episode of iMPACT! oh-so long ago, they've been breaking backs in the tag team division and quickly becoming fan favorites. As the final TNA-Listers in our series, it's easy to be underwhelmed by Beer Money. Roode's got the standard suplex, a belly-to-belly, and a Death Valley Driver; Storm's got a body slam and inverted atomic drop; and the duo -- like every other tag team in the game -- doesn't enter together. Basically, we've seen all of their standard moves before and it kind of makes them blend in with the crowd. Thankfully, the Eight Second Ride looks sick.

Some advice... rent the game first people.... Trust me, you will not be sorry you rented it first. In fact, do it with any new game you want. The graphics for the PS2 are no where near as good as the entrances look.

Yeah. Only 360 has downloadable wrestlers & arenas. I believe PS3 as well. And the game is AWESOME. Good lord, go out and get this game ASAP.

Amazing graphics. Definitely getting this when it comes out. Not sure about SvR09, but I might get that too. Not sure about the PS2 version, but I believe I heard that for the 360/PS3 versions you will be able to download wrestlers when that becomes available.
