I'm going to DL this when I get paid, and I've already checked out the trailer but I've got a question for those of you already playing. I notice the Japanese title of the game is Siren: New translation. In addition, the characters, settings and even some of the set-pieces in the trailer look extremely similar to the first game (i.e. Shibito nurse looks like Risa/Mina, little girl looks like Harumi, guy sniping from the village air raid tower exactly like Akira Shimura did).
Is this actually a new game, or just a remake of the first game with slightly different protaganists? And if I've gone through the first game and beaten all the missions, is this worth getting?

Yeah, the characters in the game will be pretty familiar, right off the bat too. From Kyoya Suda to Tamon Takeuchi, and the story's a lot easier to understand as well.

This is basically a remake of the first game. Iv'e played through the original Siren myself, and I must say that Blood Curse is a lot better in many ways. I would certainly see it as a Must Buy. If you enjoyed the first game, you'll like this one.
