As soon as I got that laser part I realised something, the only way olimar's ship could of gotten hit by that meteorite is if he was too lazy to blast it to space dust because his ship has got a radar so it'd appear on the radar screen, that lazer can blast through a supernove or something like that so that meteorite should be a breeze. It was human nature(The lazyness part) that caused the downfall(literally) of Olimar's ship...Sad isn't it.
