The way to resolve this is to right click on the Shortcut to bf1942, choose properties and by the target area you must add +menu 1 +widescreen 1

so the target after you add this should look like this:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\BF1942.exe" +menu 1 +widescreen 1

Sounds like its having that common 16:9 problem.
I fixed this on my monitor by adding a line in the start command, but forgot where it was online. search bf1942 problems with WIDESCREEN and you will find it.

I'm having the same sort of problem. With the new monitor I can hear the game, but not see it. Also, when you turn the monitor off and on while the game is running, you see the screen for a split second before it turns black.

I tried changing the files in the settings, as others have suggested, but that did not work. Any help, please?
