You cycle over, yeah. Your levels and items are all the same, but characters you need to acquire (like Flonne), you need to encounter in the story again, but they'll be the way you left them (when they're back in your party, that is).

Can you start from the begining with your characters still at the same level, or go back and repeat missions and stuff?
